What do you guys think? I've recently been nagged in Google docs that I can upload all sorts of files now, not just Word docs, PowerPoints and so on.
So I have this idea of uploading images and other things and marking them as public...just wondering if anybody else sees any marketing potential for this?
you should be smart person if you can see this as marketing potential. For me, I have no idea yet, I have use this service before and just see same as microsoft doc , excel or powerpoint,it only media for me.
Google Doc's terms do state that you should be the copyright owner of the material you upload. So unlike Megaupload, Rapidshare or other filesharing website, this is an opportunity to generate revenue by uploadiing legitimate content. You could use this platform to create revenue streams, but I would suggest that you bear in mind the copyright issue

I fail to see how making an image public on google docs is different from uploading an image to your own server?
Can you demonstrate a concept/theory/method that will result in higher traffic to your public google file, over a file on your own website?

Haven't seen one yet, but was thinking it could be used like a private article directory. Some time in the past three years a major directory took down my article after someone took it without adding the author bio, and they claimed ***I**** stole it. Never even asked me about it, and it was so old, I forgot it was there, so didn't check on it for years. (Did deal with it, and the thrif no longer has a blog to keep stealing others writings.) Now I have no trust of article directories, but am thinking an article on a Google doc might get me going on writing articles for my niche again without having to rely on unreliable people. Then again, I don't know how it would be seen by people anyway. (An idea without proof that it would work.)

Sounds like you just need to start your own blog to me.
On a side note, I've recently started using google docs and they're great for me when I travel or need to share with co-workers at other offices.

Not sure about the marketing value of Google Docs, but I'll tell you this - it came in VERY handy once when I was asked randomly for a copy of my resume.
atwhatcost: I tend to agree with the LeoPaul - your own blog would certainly help there and in many other ways. Blogs don't mean what they used to (i.e. personal diaries/journals) and I've seen a few places where the content actually has a copyright statement. While I've read that those aren't guaranteed to hold up in court, it's a good start.

Yes, I have a blog and don't use it as my own personal journal. (Check out "My Website." It is a different kind of journal. lol) I was writing articles to get the inbound links. Unfortunately, the experience with the article directory turned me off to that.
Truthfully, until this question, I thought Google docs were private things, so also saw no purpose in them. This question got me rethinking, and so, I asked if that could be a purpose for it. I really don't know. At least, if it works, I'd have more say in my own writings. Of course, if it's public, they're just as likely to be stolen, but I don't need to deal with middle men to get them back.
