Inside the Mind of the Bride
with Google Insights for Search
Ever wish you could see inside the mind of a typical bride to figure out what she is thinking? Well that is not physically possible. However, Google defies the laws of science and gets you close with its Google's Search Insights tool. OneWed's Savvy Marketer is here to show you how to make the most of this tool.
Google's Search Insights tool allows you to compare search term volume across regions, time frames and categories. Thus, you can use the tool to understand the pulse of what is being searched for in the wedding industry on Google and what is top of mind for brides-to-be. For example, a big increase in "Budget Weddings" searches means brides are watching their finances more closely during tough economic times. Now, let's run through a few tips on using the tool and what it can do for you.
1. Categories: The first step you should take is to narrow down your results to the wedding category only. Just click on Categories > Lifestyles > Weddings to make the tool pull only information related to weddings. Now any search term you want to know more about is graphed relative to the Weddings category as a whole.
2. Overall Trends: On the home page of the Weddings category data, you can see both top word searches and the fastest growing search terms in the category. This is very helpful to understand what topics brides are searching for most frequently and what topics are becoming more popular with brides.
3. Specific Search Terms: The tool allows you to both measure the volume of specific wedding search terms and compare up to five wedding search terms' relative volume. For example, if you are a wedding photographer you can determine the search volume of your wedding specialty, its growth over time and the seasonality of searches for wedding photography.
These are great tools but it gets better. Move more into the weeds by narrowing search data based on geography, date range and search type.
1. Region: The tool allows you to filter by country (region), state (sub-region) and city (metro) to refine your search to an exact location. You can also compare regions to one another and view heat maps to determine which geographies are heaviest in certain search terms.
2. Date: Filter by whatever date range you choose to compare current versus past trends.
3. Type of Search: The tool even allows you to determine what type of search the bride is doing with that search term. Want to know how many dress searches are image versus web versus product so you can optimize the content on your website? You can with the Insights tool.
To close with our wedding photography example, now you can figure out how often brides are searching for photojournalism style versus traditional style in the month of January in the San Francisco area. Armed with this data and many additional possibilities you can target your website, marketing and offerings to keep up with the trends that are on brides' minds. Read here for more tips on how to use Google's Search Insights tool for your business.

Yer I have just started using google insight this week and it looks to be quite good, and you can get a lot of search info from it if you use it right.
But I guess will have to wait and see just how well they are guessing whats coming up next month lol

from my expoerience it works ok on broad terms, but has no results for much with any refinement, and regional city is hopeless, certainly not what is promised in Googles help page

The regional interest thing is useful for me because it can guide me where I can promote my site more.
