I have been told that directories don't not give any seo value, what do you guys think?

Some of the better directories appear to still have value, but I wouldn’t base building your link profile solely on directory links. And a lot depends on what and how competitive the space is, as well as how new your site is, as well as your own sites architecture and so on.
And little common sense needs to prevail when choosing a directory or whatever. In simple terms you want back links that last, meaning wherever they come from do they have the potential to stay indexed. If either site is all assed up with adsence and “boilerplate” like much of the web and especially directories, then IMO both sites already got a few strikes against them.
While the following numbers are just talking points, some good directory back links could move a site from results page 40 to results page 5 or something, but you may find that they may not do much for an established site that’s already positioned in the top 3 results.

I think waveshoppe has prob given you the best reply you will get mate
It all depends on the directory, how long your sites been around, you current rankings and a number of other factors. But a bit of common sense like getting good, strong and relevant directory links, will go a long way with any type of linking
IE would you see that directory link as a relevant or strong link that a human would use or find relevant to a directory search etc?
I still do directory submission and see them help my sites, but I tend to only go for highly used and ranked directories most of the time. And don't only use directories in my link build campaigns as its just not enough to get your site in an authoritative view by google.

As for me, I don't submit my site anymore on directories because I find it waste of time. Most directories with values takes time to get listed. Then sometimes you get approved but the sites that were get listed doesn't belong in proper category. It means that some directories are not properly moderated. If a directory is moderated, it takes so much time to get listed but most of the time you'll wait until forever to make you submission get approved.

Like I said, they still have some impact. But when it comes to links, you get out of it, what you put into it. So for those that don’t want to put in the effort I say, no pain no gain.
Thanks for the reply, I find directories don't help either, but now looks alike that the directories I submitted to don't work. Have you guys tested result between directories and other method
I think if you could get directory from same niche that will be positive, if not that will be useless, I use directory as well for my SEO campaign , but now I dont focus on that, blog commenting with low OBL is what I am looking for this time
It would not be right to say that all directory is vain for seo. Many directory are very useful for getting better links and traffic.
As for my side,Directories are still good for SEO,Because submissions in high page rank site is improve page rank of your site.We all submit index page of the site because Google first crawl the website homepage.Back link of your web site is very important thing of increase your site page rank and it will get more from directory submissions.

You have nothing to lose by submitting a free listing to a directory, like Superpages or Yellowpages. The link strength is much stronger than other non-relevant directories, and you have the possibility of additionally getting some directional traffic.
The search engines index these sites entirely, whether you are a paying advertiser at the top or a free listing in the alphabetical section.

I considered adding those to my list but I am still gathering stats on them to see if they are worth it. http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/ … rectories/

I agree with waveshoppe that the vast majority of directories have very little value, and might get your website from extreme obscurity to moderate obscurity, but that's about it.
And I also think if you overdo them it can actually hurt you. IMHO.

In my opinion Directory Sites are very helpful in Seo.
Good Directory submission is still an easy way to increase your pagerank and drive in traffic for your website. Also quality inbound links could provide ranking as well as increase the rate of visitors immediately. So it's not that worthless
Well, i don't think it will harm you... But, yes it's more or less a wastage of time, coz' probably 100submissions may make 1% difference at the MOST!
By the way article submissions are extremely helpful in seo...
It depends. Directory submission can only be beneficial if you post your links to quality directories (meaning: sites with good PR and reputation). If you can also find directory sites that are relevant to your niche, that's so much better.
Some web directories have been around for years and are seen as authority sites in the "eyes" of the search engines. Having these sites link back to you can help boost search rankings.
Some directories have moved on to become paid directories, but the majority of the sites remain as free directories, which means that you can add your links without having to pay a single cent.
Submit your website to quality web directory site and get some back links to your website. Directory submission is the basic SEO strategy.
Directories are good in SEO..They dont deliver traffic but yes we can get back link from them
Directory submission can only be beneficial if you post your links to quality directories
