Over the years my wife and I have acquired a number of domain names, but through different services. Now we need to pay renewal fees to different orgs at different times of the year. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to at least consolidate the renewals through a single source.
Any experience in moving a domain name? Issues? Advice?
Much appreciated.

yeap have done it here a few times
it's usually pretty straight forward but it does involve a number of steps and 'waiting periods'
contact the registrar you want the domains moved to and ask them exactly what steps are involved
then try with 1 and see how it goes, before you try to move the farm

if you've got .com .org and .net domains (ie global/US names) then you have to unlock the domain at the current registrar then tell tyhe new registrar to add it to their account. Sometimes you''l be issued with transfer codes to authenticate you.
.co.uk, .org.uk etc are really easy - log into existing registrar, enter the IPS tag of the new registrar then log into new registrar and claim to own the domain.
I've probably transferred over 200 domains in the last 2 years. It's just like baking a cake - different cakes have different recipes, but follow the recipe and it turns out perfect
Whew! There are more steps in the process than I have fingers...
Anyway, I managed to transfer one .com domain easily from one Registrar. Northie and Nic's comments are valid. I did need to unlock (enable) the transfer process. That is done within the Account Whois window. I also obtained the authorisation code, part of the unlocking step. Once all was complete I received e-mails from both registrars pointing me back to their sites in order to confirm.
Lotsa steps but I can see that it is designed to protect your domains from easy transfer. Fits into the identity theft discussion.
The next domain had a different twist. Since I had a 'privacy' option the new registrar was not able to obtain my actual e-mail from the original registrar. The e-mail they got was 'made up'. So I was not able to confirm the request. I had to contact the original registrar by phone and have them remove the privacy option. Now I am waiting for final confirmation.
One more .com to go! Hopefully there aren't any more 'lessons'.
This all fits in the 'time bandit' discussion!
