Finally after months of hard work im achieving the number one spot on google .
Well it actually depends on how i type in the key phrase "Gold coast fishing charters" if i type it with a capital "G" im no.1, if i just type "g" in lower case im no.4,. Obviously Google pays some attention to this. What are peoples thoughts on this. im thinking when im link building i should mix the link texts up starting some with capitals and some without. would appreciate peoples thoughts on this. My title and description tags contain a mixture of both.

This suggests to me that your position advantage is only very slight.
Continued link building will help - but make sure you still mix things up a bit

Yes im thinking along the same lines, will continue my link building and try to mix things up a bit more, what are your thoughts on mixing it up a bit in the keyword and title tags? im getting great results and dont want screw things up. i guess if i keep records of changing things and they have a negative result i can always change back.

Hmmmm, I've always heard that caps don't matter to search engines and haven't heard anything different until now.
google is so lame.
I have lots of problems with "Saint" as in Saint Petersburg where most of my clients own small to medium retail businesses. They have hard time understanding why they perform differently for St Petersburg, St. Petersburg and Saint Petersburg.
Why can't search engines fix this? They can they just don't want to. After all if you were listed properly, you wouldn't buy advertising . . .
This of course doesn't help you at all... sorry.

I`ve learnt too that different spelling effects your ranking so you do indeed need to mix it up a little.
I can go from page two to about page 6 with a simple gap in spelling.
I do not think that this is working. If I type Google Offices than also same results coming similar to when I type google offices.
So I do not think that capital or small letters in Meta tag will plan an important role.

I capitalise all words in my title except for stop words. EG:
Buy the Cheapest Blue Widget from MySite for only £xxx
I do this more for readability in the results than anything else. We seem to have a pretty good click through when we appear in results.
I'd rather double the click trhoughs on results I do appear in than worry too much about a capital letter dropping me a place or 2.
A decent amount of "mixing it up" (as they say) overcomes that issue anyway
