Hi Site Reference
I am currently in the process of changing hosts for a large site. I have quite a few pages of reciprocal links.
Is it at all possible to check who's still linking back? I've tried SEO Elite but it uses too much bandwidth and keeps freezing.
Any help would be MOST gratefully accepted!
Wendy

Hiya Wendy.... there are many ways to go about it. For starters bookmark my page of SEO Tools - I try to go back and make sure anything on the list is in the top 10% of what's available...
Now, tracking backlinks is a crap shoot on the best of days... Google gives limited data, yahoo is limited and most of the tools out there use their data...
Soooo.... we do what we can.
Next, I am not a huge fan of reciprocal links... so I personally wouldn't be all that worried either way. But let's take a run at a few things;
1. Look for bad neighborhoods - one never knows if a site linking to them has gone to hell, changed ownership or other issues that might cause us grief. While it is hard to be hurt by inbound links, it isn't so tough to cues grief with whom you LINK TO.
Enter your url into the bad neighborhood checker; http://www.bad-neighborhood.com/text-link-tool.htm
Makes sure there are no flags or issues there.
2. Grab link slueth - and give your site the one over for links that may be pointing to nowhere (defunct sites)http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html
4. Use the 'link:' command in yahoo and DOWNLOAD the TVS file (there's a link to that) http://ca.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com … amp;bwmf=u
5. Take that and enter it into here for a parsed list of the sites linking to you - http://www.massmediadesign.co.uk/seo/SiteParser.aspx
You will still have some cross referencing to do... but that should get you started

lol... thanks for the thought ;0)
I do have a new ebook coming out in the new year on link building... does suit this discussion - drop me your email via PM and I shall put U on the list for an advanced copy - and be done with silly recip links.
Anyway, as mentioned WHOM U LINK TO is always a concern... so be sure to weed out any sites that don't seem up to task.. pick the winners. One can never be too careful
Also, if you're changing any page names be sure to have a 301 Redirect plan to ensure there is no significant ranking loss
Thanks for the head up on my beer thingy.. changed it to the proper PayPal addy... I wonder how many brews I loss out on... :0(
