Additional Comments
Hello!
We would love any and all feedback we can get about our website. We are looking to build many things, but want to know whats important to you!
Let us know what you think and what we can do to improve upon our website!
Sincerely,
Brendan Kane
P.S. Some feedback we could use....
1. At this stage, is video content, design or navigation the most important thing we need to fix?
2. How can we improve the video play pages (individual pages with 1 main video on them) to be indexed better by popular search engines?
Edit : 11-6-08 Might add questions down the road to help guide the feedback we need! Thanks in advance!
Hello WatchDoit
I have never been on a site like yours but it looks good.I have two sons who are always watching 'COOL' videos.
My eldest one ,videos about taking the rip out of newzealanders, and the middle one street dancing ,breakdancing and stuff like that.Think there is one going around now of Drug user that some kids filmed.
The point that i am making is its more likely that generation who i think would go on that sort of site,so maybe you should stick to the coolest videos rather then the cooking ones.
I may be wrong .
Good luck

Hey Janet,
Thanks for the advice! We actually doing a lot of the hip/cool How-to videos in the beginning stages of our site, but found our demographic age range was between 18-35 who visited the website. We try to have How-to videos that appeal to that whole demographic and later create a system for recommending videos based on the website visitors age (well...if we can figure out a good way to track that information
). Appreciate the advice!
Sincerely,
Brendan Kane

I found the top image nav part took ages to load - tick, tick tick tick, can that be mnade faster or can you move it so we can something to get on with while it is loading, like the rest of the page!
I was looking foir a categories list and finally found it at the bottom of the page. Oldies like category navigation!! A good one would be "Things you have to know when u move out of home" , like how to clean, how to shop, etc. Kids don't know these today.
Maybe a bit more text at the top "Welcome to the webs most informative instructional video site" - will help with SEO as well.
I remember an old site used to have all this stuff, as text and pic (waaay before speeds allowed vids) I liked the one about how to tie a tie.
See this thread as well on aspects of inclusions of info at the linking pages http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/ … Bandwidth/
Overall I think the site is pretty cool idea

Hey Matte,
Thanks for the advice! Hmm, it took a long time to load, what browser did you use? Flash movies usually take a second or two too load the first time around. :( But we will work on boosting the speed. In addition, we are working on shrinking the size of that navigation panel so that more videos are displayed Above the Fold.
That's wierd! You did not see the categories button in the top left corner below the Website Logo?? Wow, we did not think anyone would have trouble finding it there, but definitely we don't want that to take away from the user experience. We will try to come up with some ideas on how to make it stand out better. Thanks!
As for the title, we found that "How to" is the most common term used to relate searches to a How to Video Website. So we are trying to include that in the phrase. We use to have "instructional", but it produced low results in traffic.
Thanks for the link and thanks for the feedback!
Sincerely,
Brendan Kane

using FF2 on a 512 download, too over 30 seconds to load
Ah see that dropdown now you point it out. I think if you could work in an expanded category menu above the fold that would be great.

Well...we are definitely going to have to work on shrinking that swf player loading time down. Thanks!

Only have time for a quick couple of comments.
The thing at the top that you can scroll through the different thumbnails of videos... That's great except the arrows only move over one thumbnail. I would suggest have it scroll through "pages" of thumbnails. That's the behavior I expected, anyhow.
Nice site, though. There's some real estate at the bottom you could use, decrease the whitespace at the footer possibly. Good amount of whitespace around the "Advertise with Us" link, too.
Looks almost like YouTube, so the users should be able to navigate somewhat easily.
Not bad, though.

Hey Mark!
Thanks for the comments! I am not to clear on the thumbnails sentence. It shows 17 Thumbnails total (Don't ask why thats the magic number). I think you meant that it should just scroll through thumbnails on mouseover and not require to be clicked on. Correct?
We will add some ad spaces on the right-hand side. Maybe another at the bottom to fill the voids. I was hoping to add some more cool features, but we have to build them first.
Thanks for the feedback!

The mouseover would work, its just tedious clicking over and over to scroll through the thumbnails. You could leave it clickable, but have it scroll over a few thumbnails, instead of just one.
That's just me, though. You might want to try a split-test, and have some tracking on the thumbnail buttons to see if it is used more the way it is now or after you make some changes.
Just a thought though. Thanks for responding so quickly!
All the best.

Good idea! We will probably implement a split-test first. And yes...I do respond fast. I am just working on a presentation right now. Sorry for the 5 minute delay. :)

If everyone responded within 5 minutes I think the forums would be much busier!

As I was scrolling through the sites to check out and review, your domain name jumped out - kudos. The name describes your site and tells us just what to expect when we get there. Most people forget that the domain name can make you or break you, and once you spend thousands to promote it, you hate to start over, so most of us are stuck with it. (we know all too well).
The site design is attractive and arranged well, although perhaps move the “categories” box to the top somewhere for a quick glance at the wide range of topics available.
We bookmarked the site and will probably visit often.

Appreciate the kind words! Yeah, we will look into the categories button. Thanks! Happy Holidays!

I enjoyed watching your site, it gave me a few things that I can do to my site. Keep your videos clean and enjoyable and you will have more people telling more people about your site. I think you have a good thing going here. Keep it up.
