My site is a sales page for an affiliate. I am new to the forum and not sure if I can post my site for review/comments, but here it is: <edit>url edited out by Moderator</edit> I have done some free site submissions so far, some offline advertising in newspaper, and some online free advertising in free classifieds, craigslist and backpage. I am considering buying visits, email marketing, article submission, and newsletter advertising (all of which targeted if possible). I have no experience with any of these outlets and they all sound soooo goood with their pitch. I do not feel that I am quite ready for google adwords. While I am cautious when it comes to investing in business (I researched the affiliate program that I joined for 1.5 months before committing), I do not have a problem making the investment if the possible return is adequate (money spent = site visits, as so many visits will equal a sale). Can anyone give me their input on what has or has not worked for them? I am very open to suggestions. Thanks!

it depends what kind of affiliate, but this forum is about SEO, which means; ranking high in SE's like google and so get traffic, which means; although it will take time and money to rank; it's a 1 time investment, while with paid advertisement, you need to pay for it, again and again and again ...
sure; main question; how strong is your competition?
if you are affiliating stuff like insurance etc, your competition is so strong that you might never rank , so then advertisement might be the way to go ...
First identify your niche market
Then identify your visitors
Then advertise in places visited by your visitors.

Along the same lines as the tactic used above (although forum links are "NOFOLLOW" on SR - nice attempt though)
Grab hold of as many sites that offer the same services as you and coax them into linking with you, once you have that done your site will start gaining a bit more respect around the serps, make sure you dont only focus on google, target yahoo and msn... depending on your products you should should also consider advertising them on bid or buy etc. Many ways to skin a cat... If you are looking for some solid support and are willing to put some money into it - call Dave (theGypsy) or visit him at www.huomah.com - he also has a fancy book...
My up and coming... soon to be real website... www.thewebguy.co.za (one day i will finish it
