what to believe?
Hi all. Previously some of the people on here checked out my website for me and found that i had only one header and it was repeated for every page. Nothing i could do about it because it is a freeweb site and i cant add the codes needed.
So i sent a message to my host explaining my position and also asking if it could be done , and this is the reply i got.
Solution: Dear Customer,
We have had many sites become successful in search engines without the ability to change the header for each individual page. Search engines also weigh the keywords that are in the body of each page.
However we are also working on a tool that will allow you to change the headers of each page simply because the assumption that it is required is in such high demand.
Please let me know if I should process your cancelation request.
Kindest Regards,
Veronica
Ticket Information:
Ticket #: 5418-5543508
Date Created: May 27, 2008 10:47 AM EDT
Summary: delayed renewal or possible cancelation of premium hosting
Details: I need to delay renewal of my premium subscription.
I don't understand a great deal about the codes etc but i've had a couple of seo people do a review of my web site and they have advised me to start from scratch and not to use freewebs as my host if i want to get anywhere .. Something about same header for every page and nothing i can do about it.. and that if i stay where i am i wont get any better results from the search engines.
So unless you can tell me anyway around this ,how each page can have a header installed i will need to delay my premium subscription for the time being until i can work out what i will have to do .I have had no reason other than this to cancel my service .I hope it can be resolved but if i cant have a header for each page i will have to build my website somewhere else from scratch.
So there it is lol if its not so important why dont they explain why? If it is so highly demanded there has to be a reason lol..
What do you all think about my hosts comments.
Jan.

Re: what to believe?
Aloha trpjan,
I am assuming you are referencing the pages Title. In a nutshell search engines rank individual web pages, so its always advantageous to make every page descriptive, relevant and unique. Having said that, the Title is one of many on page elements that may need tweaking, especially in a competitive field. If you cant change the Title it doesn’t necessarily mean you are doomed, but you will have to put in twice the time and effort elsewhere to achieve the same effect.

Re: what to believe?
G'day Jan.
It's all true and you should believe it all, including what WS said above.
The advice you got on SR was all relevant and sound. The response from your host is all true.
There are choices there for you to make. The criteria for making those choices have to do with just what you want to accomplish.
Now, here are some things that I think you should do in order to decide for yourself which way to go, rather than relying on others telling you what to believe:
1) Go back over all your questions and responses on SR. There are clearly several things you need to get your head around. Perhaps the main one is targeting a different search term on every page so that you've got many search terms covered over the entirety of your site.
2) Go to the following free online tool and run several of your pages, including your home page, through it. http://www.pagerank.net/search-engine-simulator/ You'll see that what you are presenting to the SEs, first up on every page, is exactly the same content. Ask yourself , "If the robots are set up to look for good, unique content, what do they make of my pages?"
3) Go to the post http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/ … -stacking/ and observe the little game (xperiment/demonstration) that we played. Do searches on SoraCross and forums.site-reference.com SoraCross See what you can learn. Click on the link that Gypsy gives and study what's going on and it's relevance to your situation.
4) Regularly visit Gypsy's SEO site http://www.huomah.com/ (free). Follow the links from Gypsy's site to others with whom he rubs shoulders, such as: Andy Beard, Jason Kestral, Sexy SEO, William Schwartsky and the many others.
5) Get a free Yahoo Geocities website. Build a website using the html editor that you downloaded, (EasyHtml). Experiment with the information given to you in the SR forum and the SEO handbook.
Use opal for your subject if you want, or make it on Dogs, Camping Holidays, Trees of South Australia, whatever you like. You could make it on Education. Get onto the press release for the federal and state ministers for education and you'll have no shortage of relevant content to copy and paste.
Doesn't matter what the site looks like for the learning process. It's the content development that you need to learn about.
6) Now Jan, in this point I'm not trying to put you down; I'm just looking for a way to drive home the important issue that has eluded you, so please don't take offense.
Take a look at your subject for this post. It's not a descriptive title. Anyone searching the SR archives or searching Google would not expect to find information on unique headers under that search term.
Take a look down the index on the right. You'll see:
Feedback on php app
Extended Holiday?
Apache on Windows
Username stacking?
Button Madness!
Text color problem - Part 2
Difference in layout between FF and IE
Phpbb 3.0
Streaming Audio
Social Profiles - Got one?
You'll see that they are all descriptive of what the post is about and use the post's main keyword.
Your post will get indexed in Google, today or tomorrow, I expect. The URL is http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/ … o-believe/
You are catering for site visitors who want to find out if there is life after death, real reasons behind the Iraq War, will the Fuel Watchdog reduce petrol prices. Got the picture?
So Jan, if you go to work on all this, and more, you'll know for yourself and won't be dependent on others to tell you what to believe about unique content.
Just one more thing, Jan:
Has your website broken the $1,000 a week barrier, yet? What will you need to do to break this barrier?
Best wishes,
Laurie.

Actually, Button Madness! was a really bad title. Be sure to make it clear you need help. Something like "What can I use to align buttons properly?" would have been a way better title, and doesn't sound like something you'd read off a 80's video game box. Button Madness is a ghost town of a topic all because I failed to capture people's attention and explain myself properly.

Re: what to believe?
Hi,
Every time i read the replies or other posts on site reference i pick up a little information..
The more information i understand from one post the more i understand from the next. (if you know what i mean lol)
I understand what you mean Laurie.. up to a point.
When you know so little about a subject its not easy , especially when everyone has an idea how things work and they don't all agree lol.. I'm getting there slowly and will keep at it .
Waveshoppe your advice is alway worth reading and i thank you.
The less technical the information is the better for me .
As for extra work , i am prepared to do that .
You have both given me , yet again, another direction to go in.
Very slow proccess this learning thing is for me ,I learn things quicker when its hands on ,but when i have to put something i know nothing about into my head it takes time to understand it all.
And Laurie im still following up on information you have given me in the past . So you haven't wasted your time .

Re: what to believe?
Good on ya, Jan! You're one determined lady, huh?
You've been around SR forum long enough now to have seen many new web builders chuck in the towel well before persisting as long and hard as you.
I do strongly recommend that you get a free website and practice. Doesn't matter how many mistakes you make if it's not connected to your good domain. Nothing to lose!
Yahoo Geocities is only one of several alternatives, but it's a good one.
Regards,
Laurie.
