Code:
/practice-photos/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
I don't understand ajax so I don't know what this page is. But it's not a viewable page, huh?
It's got the top traffic, today. What's the go, please?
Thanks,
Laurie.

looks like it might be an admin page where you manage something within wordpress. Been doing lots of mucking around in that big day?
Also look in your folders, that will tell you where is is and give you a clue

wordpress saves posts with Ajax and updates things like the number of comments through Ajax so that script is being hit once every so many seconds when you are logged in.
Nothing to be alarmed about it's perfectly normal activity for something making asynchronous callbacks.

it's only top because it gets the most hits - all from you spending time in your admin area

OK Andy, thanks.
So all that traffic on that file would be recorded as hits but not page views, visits or unique visitors, huh?
Thanks matte. I downloaded the file and had a look at it. Being php illiterate, I'm not much further ahead, but it makes some sense, especially in the light of Andy's post.
Thanks,
Laurie.

It is a page view and a hit
as you write a post, javascript saves your work by sending the data to that page - without you noticing - maybe every few seconds
the javascript build the request data and asks for the page, the php page is served and the php makes a decision on what to do with the data it gets
This is the basics of ajax

OK. Thanks Northie.
I get a large proportion of traffic staying less than 30 seconds. Would that traffic be the ajax page or is that comment spammers looking for a target? Or maybe it's my feed being accessed, ten posts at a time?
Thanks,
Laurie.
