So, apparently people won't review my website just because it's on a sub domain. I get that I should get a real domain, but right now I have no job, and no money to buy one. Also, I wouldn't spend money on it right now because I already did that once, and for a year I probably got less than 2000 views. I want to wait until my site is actually good, and my forums are busy before I spend any money on my website. But even if I wanted to I would still need to get a job and catch up on my bills first.

Sorry to see you feeling down SoraCross.
Quite sure that's not the reason you've had no reviews.
Online games just isn't my thing. Back before computers, I just couldn't stand board games.
But I can tell you that I like the light blue much better than the black that you had before. Black suggests a website full of bad things. Not where I want to be.
Here's a suggestion for you. Might help with getting a review:
Rather than blowing in after a long absence and just expecting something for nothing, try adding something to the forum, to others. What goes around, comes around, ya know. Life's like that.
The forum is pretty quiet at the moment. True participants will be aware of that. This knowledge will give understanding about why a review is not available and may even cause them to put in, rather than simply expect to be fed.
Best wishes,
Laurie.

Hey Sora,
that was a rather bold statement...you sure it's the subdomain?
I've been busy with a course lately that's eating up all my none-work time so haven't had a chance to look
the subdomain thing personally doesn't bother me but i can see how it could to others....
you can get hosting for what? $5 a month? While you make a great point about not wanting to put cash into your website until you see more results, some people take that to mean that if you don't want to invest even $5/month into your website, that you don't really care about it and therefore neither should they.
again not my view but i think one that several would take
i would add a new post to your review explaining the subdomain thing which will get it to the top of the review section again and perhaps you'll get more interest.

and have all the inherant troubles of setting up ona new domain and possibly even a new host????
All for saving a few bucks a month???
It takes us more than $5 of our time to review your site - if you are not that committed, then why should we?

C'mon ... This forum is not ultra high traffic one so you should not expect hundreds to check your
web page ... On the other hand, having less suggestions and complaints usually means most
things are fine and should not be changed, right?

Hmm, you're right. It could vary well be that I didn't give other reviews. I figured that since I had already done it last time I wouldn't need to this time, but I didn't think about the consequences of not doing it.
As for the black sites have bad things in them, that's actually something I've never heard before, and doesn't hold too much ground. The Pirate Bay is white, after all.
Anyway, I do agree with you that I like the light theme better than the dark,
I'll review some websites later today (as I need to go wash dishes soon >.o).
Thank you for your help and concern.

Yes, you do have a good point. I guess not everyone will know that I already had three full domain websites, and that I currently can not even afford the $5 for a domain name.

It wouldn't really be too much trouble, actually. I'd just have a redirect link on my sub domain pointing to my new domain, and a news piece explaining the move.
Also, I truly don't have the money to spend on a domain, but that should in no way reflect my skills.
Also, your third comment is harsh at best, and lacking understanding at worst. First off, I have never felt that it takes $5 of my time to review a site. This isn't some top of the line members only pay per review website. People are paid back for their reviews with reviews of their own website.
I've seen domains that look far worse than my website, and sub domains that look even better. To say I'm not committed is nothing but a false assumption. If you look my website is very well designed, validated in XHTML 1.0 strict, and CSS, and even the forums have been skinned to look like the site.
I also find it a little ironic that the person saying I'm not committed because I don't own a full domain can't even be bothered enough to use proper grammar and spelling. I'm sorry, but part of me thinks that was nothing more than a joke or troll post, so I have to call you out on this part to see if you actually meant what you said.
I may have came down on you too hard, sorry, but I feel very strongly that your post is completely wrong. Sorry if I offended you though. I might have became defensive or taken your criticism too personally.

Yes, you have a good point. I didn't think about that. Sometimes I jump to conclusions, sorry.

edit: sorry, but I did look at your site, and run it though the validater too, and it came up with nine errors.
Click here to check for yourself. I know this is getting to be more personal at this point, but I also noticed that your website is at a .com.au address, which doesn't seem too much better than a sub-domain. I don't wish for this to become a flame war or something nasty, but I am looking froward to hearing your reply. Also, I think your site was designed very nicely. It has a nice professional feel to it that I enjoyed very much, and the basic colors manged to make it pop without being too hard on the eyes. 8/10.overklokan wrote:

Aloha boys and girls. While everyone has their ups and downs you must remember that you are not simply posting your woes in a public form, keep in mind that everything you post about yourself, or others, gets crawled/indexed and is available to everyone on the web. A little personal reputation management goes a long way.

Well, thanks for such a nice reply, SoraCross.
I think that it's a responsible position to avoid any expenditure while you have debts and have difficulty paying your bills. When it gets financially tough, you simply have to draw the line. That's the responsible way.
A tight financial position can cause us to see things differently to how they really are. So I repeat that the subdomain isn't the reason you didn't initially get any reviews.
I think that to get a subdomain from a mate is a good solution in your circumstances. The redirect will be messy, but you just can't help it sometimes.
About colour and in particular, using a lot of black on a website:
Black isn't a happy colour. It suggests darkness, evil, loss, loneliness, cruelty, death, mourning. I don't think that's where you are as a person.
Your avatar speaks to me of a young fella who is fun to be with, lively and desirable. Quite a different feeling to a black website. I doubt that you belong in a black website, any more than I do. But some people, because of what's in their heart, are drawn to a heavy, black website. What sort of visitors do you want?
Got any artist friends? Run the black ideas past them.
Best wishes,
Laurie.
