I have my own website but have never been able to place top 10 in the search engines. I have read about SEO and even tried to optimize to achieve better positioning without any results.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not a professional developer, I am self taught, but have been writing html for years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Such a great question, in fact, that I see the exact same question is indexed 50 times in Google, 46 times in Yahoo and 25 times in Live.

And I easily found exactly the same answer three times with the same link in the post, but from different user names.

So I expect that you'll get fine advice for your dilemma, somewhere on the web.

You know, you really should return to your posts and thank those who take the time to assist you, taking you at face value. You should also consider their advice and implement it as you consider appropriate.

Oh! And be careful with the forums that you visit. Yahoo gives a warning message: 1 potentially harmful website is marked on this page.

The answer to this question is really complex. With thousands of webmasters and all of them liking to have Google top ten rankings, so who would get there actually?

Well spotted Laurie_m. Unfortuantely we have a Google index filled with peoples questions a whole lot of answers and no thanks to anyone who sat down and took 20 minutes out of his day to respond to you.

Anyways, if you want some assistance why don't you try adding your site to the site review list. But only if you're serious about it. Don't waste peoples time if you're not coming back to this forum.
