I have read the reviews by Garry from Dundee Scotland. Not only on my site but on someone else's also. Does this man think that he is the only one that knows a good site or is the only one that can do a good site. It seems that every other word out of his little head is "i"
If your going to review do it but don't boast about your self and your ego. Your site don't look that great either.

It would be really good for you to make yourself a nice cup of tea and relax a bit while you sit and drink it.

In a more relaxed state you may be able to recognize a well optimized link drop with a sales pitch attached.

A little more subtle is the tactic of bunging on a blue in order to extend keyword rich spam.

So maybe after your cuppa you can either kick yourself or laugh at yourself for being sucked in. tongue

He just got me on the wrong day. If this was yesterday it would have been all right and I probably would have shrugged it off.
I do feel a lot better and felt better after I wrote the previous message. (Just before that I did email him and told him that his review had too many "I' in it for me to feel that he was credible.
I love reviews because they do help you a lot.. The suggestion that you need to have someone else do it for you does not help you to learn. I got the impression from this guy that we were all beneath him and he really could not be bothered with us little people. Sorry to go off on this subject. Now I'll go have some beer.

he is just taking a hardline approach to try and tout for business....if things don't match to HIS expectations he thinks it is wrong, rather than acknowledging that the web is made up of all sort of sites, skills and people.

Think is, this is a forum for beginners and more advanced alike - I hope this will be recognised and some genuine assistance given.

When i do a site review im just being honest as people do when i ask for a site review.

barry & I joined the site around the same time & I specifically remember him because he was incredibly rude in my own site review. He said it was amateurish (never mind that I do this for a living and have a bachelor of arts degree) and said I should look at his site to see how things should be done. I'm glad I did look at his site because it gave me a good laugh and then I didn't pay anymore attention to him.

So don't worry too much about it niknak...there will always be rude and arrogant people in the world...sometimes they are not even that way intentionally, but just have trouble communicating effectively.

While art is wonderful and pleasing to the eye something to strive for.. it is generally not the point of a website. I dare say that even a website that is selling art had best be somewhat non-descript so as not to outshine the product.

I began in web design because I enjoyed art and creating graphics.... after 10 years I can say without hesitation that art/design is something that needs to be put into a box and measured along with the other attributes of a website that accomplish the end goal....

This means that essentially we are all wrong and all suck ultimately. It is the consumers of the materials, products and services of a given site that are right. We can only best guess when creating designs or content, we never know until we measure.

Testing such as A/B and recently debated multivariate along with a strong funnel/traffic measurement analytics will tell you in the end if your work is of any quality to the end user.

So why debate who's advice sucks? ... I wouldn't worry about it - we all suck.

Anyone miss me? ha ha haha.... so nice to have the cast off... too much reading and not enough ranting the last few months....

well, while reading more than ranting the last few months a respected mate wrote something that went;

Don't personally attack others
Don't respond to personal attacks

..as a ranting madman on my blog and forums over the years I believe this to be solid advice really... there are so many different people with different ideas of likes/dislikes/right/wrong that it is pointless. What matters is the website... at least from a professional standpoint..

... even on a personal level, there is little to be gained in waging wars upon words... hopefully I can live up to those prose and cause myself less grief in the future...hee hee..... see how that goes ;0)

really it is quite simple, mere use expressions like "I suggest" "You might like to try" "My view is"

Lets face it - the net is a wonderful place where people can achieve their results in a number of ways tables v css for layout, this colour v that colour - there are no laws, just guidelines.

So suggesting politely that some other option might be better is all we can do.

I seem to remember one hardliner we had to run out of town, it seems the mold may not have been broken butter

Sorry Gypsy, didn't respond sooner. Was going to go to another state for what was to be a short time. Friend was very ill. Now she is at peace and we are just trying to sort things out withourt going anywhere. so I am still in my own neighborhood physically, but mentally joined to another place, so may be times that I just don't feel like turning the computer on.
