G'day andrew7
I see that in your previous two posts you were a newby, looking to get help to start a web business.
I note also that your exact questions appear 31 and 33 times, indexed in Google, so I assume you must have got some great advice which has led to the informative and authoritative post which you have now given us.
Please inform us all about the source of such great advancement so we can all benefit.

Andrew,
Doesn't look like you took my PM advice -- apologized for wasting the time of the many people going out of their way to help you. Matter of fact, looks like you need to do it again!
Forum idea -- Any way of setting up this forum so we can ignore people -- never to waste our time again, by accidentally reading a post from another forum member again, simply because we forgot their name?! Not the same as terminating people, since some might still have the patience for people that others do not. (Wouldn't be surprised to find that some would like that feature for me.

Part of a spam ring Lynn.
There are 66 results for this question in Google.
There are several spammers working SR at the moment, or at least several usernames.
One of the posts that I followed up, the other day, had, from memory, 168 results.
Many of them, maybe a quarter, had the same username. The rest had a unique username.
In one forum, the moderator retorted that he'd already posted the same question under a different (specified) username.
I found several forums where a unique username had submitted the same question and another unique username had given exactly the same answer. Now there's an unlikely coincidence, huh?
The method of dealing with this stuff on SR has already been put in place. It's just a matter of implementing it.
Selective quote from the rules page:
The Forums are intended to be a fun and friendly place where we can all learn, discuss and share ideas. To keep it so we ask that you comply with the following rules. Any violation of these will results in immediate banning:
# No Plagiarism. If you feel the need to use text from another source in a post, you MUST quote the source, and where appropriate link to it. Anything that is not in your own words or used without the original author’s permission will result in an immediate banning.
# No Duplicate Postings. If you are active in other forums, please do not post duplicate questions throughout several. If you have posted your question in another forum we will assume you do not need our help and will remove your post. Repeat offenders will be banned.
# No Split Egos. Each person only needs 1 account. Please do not register multiple accounts or they will all be banned.
I see that hundreds of webmaster forums, small and large, are plagued with this spam. I wonder whether the day's of webmaster forums are over.
Other forums that I belong to, dealing with my other interests in life, are not tormented by this scourge. Neither would the members or owners tolerate it.
Take a look at this other forum that I belong to: http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Default.aspx
* It must be ten times the size of SR. I suppose there would be about 50 core members who post at least once a week; some would make several posts a day.
* Managed and moderated entirely by the husband and wife owners.
* The business model is obviously such that the online shop attached, supports the whole enterprise. The forum is of such value to the business that allowing it to be compromised is just not on.

Laurie.

Bummer! Guess this means we really won't be getting the info for fast tracking from complete Noob to expert in half a year, AND you don't get the apology I've asked for you.
No forum is completely immune from such idiots. A friend of mine was literally flushed out of her home from Hurricane Katrina, and so, since she had so many online friends and family, who had no way of contacting her, but were worried, someone started a new forum on Yahoo caled "Friendsof...." Obviously, once we all found out what became of her, and then where she is living now and how she is coping, (the federal agency set up to help victims of natural disasters STILL hasn't financially assisted 80% of them, so obviously never will) the forum pretty much died, but no one ever took their names off the list. Over a year later, got some "woman" posting that she just found the lovely forum, had to join, and, oh, by the way, sells.... (Don't remember what her real spiel was, but we all had fun insulting her in cleaver ways for a good week. LOL)
I prefer SR's liberal policy, of allowing, until otherwise notified, since this is an international forum, and English isn't always folk's primary language. With that, sometimes posts seem stilted, hard to understand, and, occasionally, sounds spammy when they really weren't meant to be.
Still, would like the option to ignore folks individually. We've lost good people, because of the way new folks start out, and, at least in one case, I think the ignore feature would have worked, since the person I'm thinking about, just started out shaky, but now contributes nicely. As someone, who can start out like that so easily, I understand, and really can imagine that I'd be one of the first ignored by several. And, obviously, Andrew7 would be the first on my ignore list. LOL
Thanks for the added searching. Hopefully, it gives the mods and Nic enough ammo to decide if shooting is the best idea! (A cyber firing line would be fun to join. LOL)
