Re: Redirects?
Ye know... i had this problem just a few months ago and it really is a simple thing to do if you can get your host to play nice. You get a thing called domain masking which allows you (if you have two domains registered on the same host) to use two completely different urls to link to the exact same place. Heres an active example
http://www.lalibela.net/index.php is exactly the same as
http://www.africasbig5.com/index.php
Now some may think that i have cleverly duplicated my site but allas, no such tactics are at play, and i didnt have to code in any redirects. It very literally works with any page on your site, and if they come in from the africasbig5 url i can make it stick so you dont see the lalibela one in the address bar. Talk to your host about this, you can even make the "safe" domain your primary one and use the old one as a mask so you dont lose traffic.
I use Godaddy for my hosting so if they say say they cant just pull the "but godaddy does it and they are cheaper.. " lines

Re: Redirects?
You make a good point Matte. I'm not sold on the new name - and quite frankly, am still debating greatly. I think everyone in the US owns a gift basket business of some kind. geeze, how do you stand out from the crowd & be descriptive if so many have similar types of businesses?
Ryan, good idea! I'll check w/my host. Since I haven't got the name thing totally worked out, I haven't yet done the redirects - so I'll be sure to check all my options. One question though - Will this be frowned upon by the SE's?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Redirects?
Hmmm... i don't think it is frowned upon as such, whichever the primary domain is will receive the PR etc, lalibela.co.za is only a redirect from the old host to lalibela.net, lalibela.net has climbed up to pr3 and ranks for my keywords in google. Lalibela is only there because we have the .co.za url written on brochures and business cards. (.co.za is not masked). Africasbig5.com is the one that masks lalibela.net and recieves no love.
So basically if you want monkeys to have the PR you make that your primary domain and mask it with cats, if you want cats to have the PR and show up in the serps then make cats the primary and mask with monkeys.
