Spiders follow links and a single link is more than enough to get a page spidered. So all the time spent on submitting to 10,000.00 search engines (in reality there are just 1 and ½ search engines worth pursuing) would be better spent on acquiring a relevant link from an indexed page, that would be your first step towards nirvana.

I heard a definitive answer to a similar question a couple months ago. I don't know who said it, but......
"Advertising is a tax business's must pay, for NOT being great."
How true.....

Well they may be time wasting tasks to you but people who are getting started looking to get noticed it's not.
Telling people they don't have to submit to a search engine is about as misleading as you can get. If you didn't submit your SITES to a search engine like Google Yahoo and MSN than somebody else did for you. if you don't submit to these guys you don't get seen anywhere. But if you don't have good content and your links don't work right it won't matter who you submit to nobody will see you.
Most newcomers have an advantage..most of them are starting their first online endeavors by using site like
blogger.com etc! Whcih basically "submit" for them!
Personally I find social bookmarking very helpful!

DON,
1) submitting to search engines is total BS !!! I don't care that you waste your time on it, but plenty of people on these forums, who just look around to find their way and submitting to SE's is not the right way! all you need is 1 single link ( a good one of course0 and you'll be found by the SE's
2) 50 dir subs and that's it? did you check them? I bet at least 30 of them are not giving you a real link ! we have a list of 2.000 directories, all checked (and checked again and again) to be SEO-friendly. the top- 300 is an absolute must, the next 700 are just good, the next 500 are worth it in the hope some of them will become good dirs and by then you have a good position, the last 500 are probably not worth it, but we keep an eye on them to see which one of those grow enough to make it to the top-1000, so my conclusion; you should do at least 500, at least !!
Links from relevant sites/pages.
Links from lots of different IP addresses.
Links with varied anchor text.
Links to multiple pages in your site and not just the home page.

Don,
there's no point submitting to search engines, because those search engines will find you themselves as long you have links !

The easiest way:
Have your website adress printed on a t-shirt. Go & kill some important person such as: Bush, in front of TV cameras, then you can be sure, every internet user in the world visited your website.
Another way: Can you sing well, do you like to sing; be a singer, or a Hollywood Star.
These are joke, bu that can be such hard sometimes.

Hi,
Every one wants to get noticed. But think why we notice something, the reason is, its UNIQUE. So your content should be unique from others. It should contain the information about which no one or very less people are aware about that.
And lastly, it should look ATTRACTIVE. If the content and the information is unique but looks dull, than no one is going to notice. So make it attractive.
Finally, the answer to your question is unique and attractive. M sure everyone will notice....
