Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

"Site updates" box would look less cluttered if there's 1 line spacing between
date/text entries (menu above and most other text on page have 1 line spacing
anyway) ...

Left sided vertical grey dotted line on "Using this site" box should either go down
to footer or lower border of mentioned box should be set same as vertical line ...
Horizontal line between box name and text bellow is dotted 1 px, why not make it
same thickness as other lines? Same goes for horizontal line between "Site updates"
box and "Navigation" menu above it ...

Footer would be more design-specific if it's same as header = full black, not fading
from white to black ...

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

I really like the design of your website, it is very neat and matches your content. I also like that you have very complete tutorials and discuss the Valid HTML checker for after the tutorials to keep your readers on your site.

I suggest you to make 2 changes:

1. Take off the "Note: I will be on my honeymoon from 5/10/08 through 5/20/08." from your Contact page. This is personal information which is unnecessary and unappealing to the reader and it also makes you look ameteur.

2. Move the Beauty of CSS page to the CSS tutorial. It does not fit in with the top tabs because it is not as general and important as the other top tabs.

I wish you luck and success.

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

Congrats on the impending nuptials, or in my typical way of talking -- cool! You're getting hitched! Lucky lady!

As for it being too personal, or not professional enough for a contact page -- I both agree and disagree. I agree it shouldn't be on the contact page! It should be on the first page. Heck, I've been plodding on, when I can, and simply bookmark the page I'm working on in Firefox, so haven't gotten to contact page yet. What? I'm gonna learn you're getting hitch when you're celebrating your six month anniversary?! First page! First page news!!! blinka

As for the idea that it is too personal information to add, again --agreeing and disagreeing. If you had made this as a money-making venture (or when you do), it can be taken as too personal, HOWEVER, as one of the key audience of your site, it's written for Noobs of various degrees, so we're not looking for hoity-toity professional site (although it looks extremely professional and so unbelievably magnificient compared to all the other tutorials I've discovered on the web), so any concept of a real person behind this particular site is a plus to us. Says that you're a real person, who wasn't born knowing all this stuff, so we have hope of understanding it ourselves.

Can't comment on the CSS stuff yet. Haven't gotten there yet. Hopefully, you know me enough now to notice I can be a tiny bit longwinded gloria, so am only up to "Form Elements" (for HTML) and page 11 of commenting after only having 14 hours to study your site so far. Speaking of six month anniversaries -- I think I know what I'm giving you -- my completed review. (And Dave thinks my comments on here are books. LOL) A romantic present, right?! LOL

Boy, musta been something in the air the last year or so, third SRer getting hitched, and my brother, after a mere 53 years of remaining a bachelor. Viva la Marriage!!!

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

Thanks jasiel your comments are appreciated.

Regarding the 'Note' I contemplated whether or not to place it. Considered even setting up an auto reply email. I decided that it would add a more personal touch over unprofessional. By letting people know up front before contacting me that it would be a few days before I would be responding to there inquiry thereby not offending them and/or give them the feeling of wasting there time.

The "Beauty of CSS" page is actually a very important page when talking about the use of css to separate layout/design from content. Now if the majority of people agree that it shouldn't be there I would be more than happy to place it as you suggested.

Lynn - What can I say other than thanks for the gift, looking forward to book your comments.

I will pass on your comments to Kristi.
This was actually our 5th/6th year anniversary. The 6 year mark for our first date and the 5 year mark for our wedding.
We renewed our vows in circa 1860's style and then took the honeymoon we couldn't afford to take five years ago.
Already talking about what we are going to do for 5/10/2013. LOL

Hi Cole
I think your site looks great. its well-organized.   Everything is easy to find. There's a ton of information which I myself will probably use. Your color scheme is good although there a few words in the top left-hand corner that I can't read.
The only other thing is I'm  not sure  your domain names fits your site.
I think you'll do great. Not really sure on how you plan on making money. I don't see any advertisers or any programs for sale.
all in all at your site is wonderful.

Hey, CE, ummm, did you delete the site? Can't get to your site to continue -- in FFor IE?! Both of them are telling me it's not my computer.

Bummer -- in the beginning of a five day heat wave, (90F and above, or above 32C for the rest of the world), so I'm avoiding going out as much as possible, giving me more time to keep going! Been held up for a while trying to get the garden together, so a heat wave is helpful, in this case.

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

I haven't seen any new "The Beauty of CSS" designs pop up on the page.  I know we have some creative people around here, so I challenge some of you regulars out there to come up with a bit of CSS and maybe a few images to help CE show off the advantages and beauty of CSS!

PS Sorry about the duplication, but I started by putting the challenge here, then realized that it probably wouldn't be seen by many in an old thread.

Oh deary, deary me! We have a problem.

I went to the Beauty of CSS page to have a look at the CSS Challenge. The links in the right column work in FF but not in IE. How can this possibly be? Code validates in FF Tidy.

Laurie.

I just checked in IE6 and had no problems. Don't have IE7 on this computer, will have to check later on another computer.

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

Hey CE!  I know it's common practice, but I find it confusing when there is a <hr> under the heading, effectively separating it from the text that it belongs to and appearing to put it with the text above.

I think this may be part of the trouble being referred to in the Challenge post.

Regards,
Laurie.

Actually, he isn't using <hr>s, but borders.  It's up to the individual CSS coders how they want to display the headers in their version.  For example, if you look at the "Columns" design, I've set the top borders instead.

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

Thanks for that Steven.

I must say that your design is impressive. A completely different look to the page. tummenupp

I wonder if those seeing a problem with where some things are on the page, find it better in Steven's version. roll

If only I could get around to it I'd do a version of the page. It would be pretty plain, though. Not clear about the ethics of reworking Severn's code and calling it my own while still using her graphics. roll

Laurie.

Re: Please Review - http://validwebdesigns.com

Sorry about my lateness here.

Laurie, that is one of the benefits to having the beauty of css page. An opportunity for each person to style and lay out the page as they see it. As we all know you can't please everyone with a single design as we different opinions on what we like and how we would present something.

If you would like to use the same 'Sandbox' graphics and just change the lay out, you have my permission to do so.

Thank you Steven for jumping in and answering Laurie.

Thank you Gilly for the comments.
