New Search Engine?

Just got a call from these guys today. Anyone ever see them before?

-update -

Just noticed that if you click on a site in the search results, it gets sent to your system via some sort of frame, i-frame, or whatever you call it.

The guy on the phone said that it's a porn free search engine (yet I showed him a search result in less than 5 minutes that had porn). To get into the top three, you PAY for a ppc campaign.....

Guy - To enter the top three spots, we offer a Pay Per Click program, where each click will only cost between 10 cents and 15 cents.

Me - So, to get into the top three, I gotta sign up for a PPC program?

Guy - Uh.... what is P - P - C?

Me - Haha... you're kidding right?

Guy - I'm sorry, but I'm really new at this. So what is a PPC again?

Me - ..........

Hmm...  They're coming a little late in the game.  Even with the gee-whiz factor, I think they'll have a hard time getting much business.  One of the factors against them will be the download time for all those images and javascript.

Re: New Search Engine?

Thats what I thought. It's nice to see that my sites already rank well for my terms there (top 5), so I don't see any reason to throw money at a no-name setup anyways.

I especially don't like the fact that my site is warped in through some sort of i-frame tho. Makes me VERY cautious when it comes to money transactions.

Re: New Search Engine?

I like the concept but dont like the way they did it, i wouldnt be surprised if google came up with something similar to this for the mac pc's (after all, that is where the menu idea came from... obviously). It aint very functional though, especially if you arent used to a touch flo type environment (HTC Utelises Touch Flo + duel touch with wm6 to provide a cube like interface - finger control of your pda... EAT THAT IPHONE reta )  and i pimp my pda regularly so i am used to it... that se version sucks, the acceleration isnt set low enough and you cant really figure out what site you will land on without some practice.

Im gonna jump on the proverbial limb and say these guys selling on the cosmetics instead of practicality... i reckon this thread will be the first and last we hear of em tongue

Re: New Search Engine?

Spending some of that venture capital on usability and not flash would have been a good idea. I guess it's VC money as nobody in their right mind would launch a service with such usability flaws with their own money.

It's kinda funky but the results are too slow and a bit pants too. Short-lived-gimmick springs to mind.

The iframe stops people from being able to bookmark results and to be honest I don't give a toss about dancing zebras or iTones cover art / Mac OSX style graphics, I just want relevant results fast and on that count this search engine fails.

Agreed!  And that in my opinion is why Yahoo (with or without Microsoft) will never compete with Google.  Yahoo has too much crap on their page!

Re: New Search Engine?

I apologize but we had some server issues so a few discussions got clipped out. I was however able to get copies on them so I am reposting them.

In the thread WaveShoppe added the following post:

********

Well lets see, its a meta search engine that’s been around for something like 3 years, no one has really heard of it, and  they don’t disclose which results are paid. What does that tell you?
