Oh! Are you an affiliate?
Yes. I'll PM you.
From what I've seen there are a couple of issues to look for with these sites.
1) Do they put no follow on your backlinks?
MBL is good. There are live links on various pages. The rss feed and profile pages, possibly others. Would have to check up again to be sure.
BC is miserly. Only one live link. The rss links go through a redirect by the look of things. Don't understand what's going on but it doesn't look too bright.
2) Speed of indexing. Technorati is pretty slow, like 24 hours, whereas the other two mentioned above are almost instant in most cases.
3) Functionality. Technority has a very poor help system. No help file, just a sort of help forum. Its full of people bitching about features not working and the admin not responding. They are the same issues that I'm looking for a solution to. After maybe a dozen unhappy customers over several weeks they say they've found the problem and fixed it. Trouble is, it's still there or else reoccurred, six months later.
4) Nature of the social intercourse. BC seems to be populated by people who have nothing between their ears except "Nice blog. Visit mine." Not much worthwhile traffic in that.
So I'll be glad to have a look at the new Yahoo site.
Regards,
Laurie.

OK. Had a bit of a look at Yahoo Mash.
In common with Yahoo Groups and Yahoo 360 blogs, there appears to be no link juce. I s'pose Yahoo has put something in the htaccess file to prevent indexing. Did you ever see a Yahoo 360 blog or a Yahoo Group page show up in the SERPs? Well, I reckon this'll be the same.
Seems to me that Yahoo Mash would be great for giggling teenage girls and children and also other people who wish to have cyber social contact in a safe environment.
You can select varying levels of privacy. It's possible to be visible only to your friends and to get rid of friends if you so desire. This has massive security advantages over a blog that is indexed and I expect that with some caution would be safe for children and those girls who want to share kissing stories with their friends.
I don't think I'll waste any more time on it. But if you'd like to see my Yahoo Mash page and judge for yourself, then go to: http://mash.yahoo.com/profile.php?id=w7 … gIQXEDSCUZ
It's not much. Colours are pretty ordinary. You'll find some other interesting people there, some of whom you may know.

Laurie.

Despite what I said, I've spent a fair bit more time fiddling with Yahoo Mash.
It won't accept the kind of content that I want to put on it. Just gobbles up the code.
But more importantly, I think that there is extreme stranger danger for the naive in Yahoo Mash.
I'm reproducing my note from another post, here, because interested people may look here for this information.
One thing that concerned me about it's potential:
You've got to be invited to join by a current member. Sounds like a good safety measure.
There's a blog roll on the site. One of the blogs is stuffed with requests from people wanting someone to send them an invitation. Of course, these people give their e-mail address for their invitation.
You can set up a profile for your friends and then invite them to join.
Given the large list of e-mails of eager, would be Mashers, it would be easy for a pedophile ring to make attractive pages for these people and invite them into their group of "friends". Sounds very dangerous to me.

Laurie.

Aloha Laurie,
I get the impression from your posts that you’re not that thrilled about social networking, which is quite understandable. But I wanted to toss in my 2 cents on one comment you made.
Seems to me that Yahoo Mash would be great for giggling teenage girls and children and also other people who wish to have cyber social contact in a safe environment.
Some social networks may indeed contain immature audiences, but you have to remember that they will eventually grow up and become viable, and maybe even qualified consumers. If your using them for branding purposes, like we do, there is an increased chance that they will remember and patronize your brand. So if things are not transparent today, it does not mean that it wont be down the road.

Good point WS!
On the Yahoo Mash in general i didn't give it much of a chance myself but that's because i am not big on the social networking stuff
for me, i have not had it provide a good enough return on my time yet (or maybe i haven't figured out how to do it well enough)
i'd like to get into it more but unwilling to sacrifice more time to it as would rather keep on with my current engagements
now if i could find someone to outsource it to...

Thanks WS. They're great points.
The thing about Yahoo Mash and the other two Yahoo identities that I'm aware of is that each is an island unto itself, divided off from it's fellow Yahoo identitys and from the www as a whole. The others are Yahoo 360 and Yahoo Groups.
Whereas Google and others become the top dog or else fit into their place in the food chain, by being the best that they can be, Yahoo tries to keep a leash on their customers by severing links with the wider world of the www.
Comes across to me a bit like the restrictive husband who keeps exclusivity of his wife by keeping her bare foot, poor and pregnant or else won't let her have friends outside the family.
The www is a good deal bigger than the limits that Yahoo sets. Whether the Yahoo world is big enough and well enough serviced with internal navigation facilities to provide a successful mini world, well, I don't know.
These are the reasons I'm thinking Yahoo Mash is more suited to the kind of social interaction that may be enjoyed by giggling school girls.
And there's nothing wrong with being a giggling school girl. Possibly the best time of life for a woman, especially those who giggle a lot.
Regards,
Laurie.

Prejudice ahead of time, here -- I trust Yahoo as far as I can spit! If I spit, it drools down my chin. My experience with them is that they are incapable of launching something well the first time, and yet, continue on their merry way, as if each foolish try was a major historical event. I signed up with them several years ago, under my TB's name, giving his birthday -- 12/17/99. With that, they don't allow me to go to any of their "adult" stuff, which includes Yahoo Answers, 360, and groups, not what you picture when someone says it's "for adults." I've written to their CS department 8 times to correct this, and even got paid by them for doing a phone interview telling them how crappy I think they are. No response, ever. (Knowing them, the response was probably sent into their bulk spam folder.
)
That being said, I did want to check out their newest historical event, but knew they'd never let me sign up, being born in 1999 and all!
Thought I finally had a way around that, but following Laurie's link to his foray into this arena. Same old Yahoo! Got this instead:
Mash is currently an invitation-only beta service. The odds are good that one of your friends is in here already. Hit them up for an invite!
Already Mashing? Sign in.
Nope, definitely will never make it into the SERPS, even their own! (I also thought the odds were slim that a friend would have joined. Many diverse friends on this forum alone.
)
Laurie,
I think you are being too lenient on how tight-leashed Yahoo is.
Also, giggles should be from the gut, a long, hardy laugh, but then again, probably 'cuz I never bothered merely giggling way, way back in the day.
Truthfully (as if the rest wasn't
), the only purpose I see for Yahoo even existing is that they are one of the few homepages that let me see the TV listings for the night, but, like everything else they do, they usually can't even get that right. 16 Sunday Night Football (American style) last season, and each one was supposedly a rerun?! They've finally fixed that -- no more football, except for some game coming up that doesn't matter (the Super Bowl - the biggest game, but Eagles didn't do well, so who cares?!), and now, as often happens they're TV listings aren't available.
Just checking -- did I get my point across, that I don't like Yahoo?! Sometimes, I'm too subtle.
