Every thing old made new again, AGAIN!

I'm starting over AGAIN.... here's my "her"-story:
I am a single mother of two.
I've been a "computer geek" since before there were windows.
I used to be a Programmer Analyst for CIGNA. Worked there for three years they wouldn't promote me. They fired me when I fell and broke my knee cap on the job, (fought me and won when I sued).
I started my business as a sole proprietor in 1999. I've had some (read:non-paying or non-profit) DTP/Internet Services clients in the past.
Last Spring the rain caved my roof in to my home-office. All equipment and supplies (7 years worth of personally vested equity; 3 PC's w/ ink jet printers, 2 Laptops w/ 1 laserjet printer, Color Copier, 3-in-1 fax, Modems, brochure/biz card stock, phones)
Had to take a per diem job ($10/hr.) getting hung out to dry just trying to get by.

Really doing what I know and love and hope the money will come. (Call me a dreamer, but aren't we all, deep down inside?)

I think it's good to share dreams and dream big often *smile - I think you'll get there no doubt with your good attitude.

How many people here at Site Reference work their dream job or put another way - truly enjoy their work?

Alright I’ll bite…

Dream job…we’ll I still haven’t given up faith that the Toronto Maple Leafs may give me the call up to start at right wing any day now…

But shy of that happening I’m very happy with what the internet world can offer as far as opportunities

Let’s face it...no job will ever be perfect and we probably all do tasks on a daily basis that we don’t 'like' per say

But to me if I can enjoy my work overall, if it challenges me and keeps me learning, if what I do is beneficial for me, my family and my ‘customers’ then I feel pretty fortunate to be doing it

What I love is "computer stuff" email and website accounts, seo, setting up PC's.
For some reason, I've been told that I make it look easy and I get things done so fast, I give it away.
I just need steady, paying clientelle. (To pay the bills, take care of my girls, fix my roof & my car and we'll be fine,I don't expect to be a "dot-com millionaire", but I won't ind a piece of the "dot-com" pie.)

Re: Every thing old made new again, AGAIN!

For me computer work is my optimal job.  I've been programming off and on since my sophomore year in high school (1981).  I don't know how I got away with 3 years of computer programming class though, since after the first year I had exceeded my teacher and was starting to program simple assembly language programs.  Since then, I have picked up C/C++, some Fortran, PL-SQL, ASP (a few generations before .NET), and most recently PHP pretty much on my own.  I had messed with web pages before, but no serious efforts until recently (2006), but I feel I've caught up pretty well.  I've been building my own computers (with a few exceptions - Laptops) since the early nineties.

I like what I do for the most part on this job (let's just say I am the IT department), but I would like to make more for my efforts.

I don’t know about “dream job” because my dream is too not work at all. But I would say that working for yourself is the way to go because you have better control over your destiny. You will probably work as much as, or more than you would for an employer, but its all for you.

Me, I grew up on a working farm and ended up managing a SQA department, the main platforms were multimedia desktop applications for training pilots for something like 9 years. Personally I think the choosing a career in the software industry is one of the worst decisions someone can make. Now I just do my own thing, no stress, and good revenues and if I want a 6 hour beach break I can take one.

I don't truly enjoy my work - I enjoy being creative and clever, building things that help both myself and others.

I would go into business for myself with some amazing products, but i'm just too lazy (i've got over the idea that i just don't have enough time; we can all spend as much time as we want on what we want to do - we are all in control, but some of us are just too lazy to be bothered to change anything)

I would re-invest my billions into making super cars and developing solar-powered-hydrogen-fuel-cell-hybrid-engines for all purposes

Re: Every thing old made new again, AGAIN!

Our job is working with people who seek to find their dream job(s).  It is a great pleasure and privilege to work on the behalf of others to help them find what they seek in the way of career, scheduling, work environment, compensation, lifestyle, etc.

Never stop dreaming your dream!  Never wait for your dream to come to you!

You have to make it happen...and with determination and commitment (and sometimes with someone elses help)...it can and does happen!

I love my job, but I'd rather be a computer game tester or book reviewer...or 'hammock on beautiful island tester' blinka
