Hi all
Ok, I am really stuck with my RSS feed. Please be patient with me as I am new to RSS
...
When I post a new topic / subject on my news page, I also include this in my RSS feed....
Thing is, once I done that, nothing updates in the major search engine pages (like IGoogle / MyYahoo / etc...)
How do you notify Yahoo / MSN / Google that your RSS feed is updated?
From what I've been reading, I have to "ping" my feed to them, but have no clue on how..
I've tried searching on the topic and only found 1 thing: ping-o-matic
This site however, is more focused on blogs
Anyone who is willing to help this newbie to RSS feeds out?
Thanks in advance!
The main articles are posted on http://www.worldofrugs.com/News.htm and the RSS feed can be found at: http://www.worldofrugs.com/Rss/News.xml
you can use www.pingomatic.com for things like that
some people will advise you against pinging though as they say that's just "bugging" the SE's
IMO doesn't hurt
Have you added your own feeds to yur own google reader, igoogle my yahoo accounts?
Thanks for your quick reply!
I have posted my RSS feed to IGoogle, etc.. indeed... Thing is.. They are not updating
Since this happened I started looking how to notify Google / Yahoo / Etc.. that my RSS feed has a new article, but without success finding it...
In Ping-o-matic, I only see the option for MyYahoo and not for Google / MSN....
So confused

Indexation by the major SEs is based on a variety of factors (crawl and index rates)... pinging them is about the same as submiting pages....
Just get set up in the usual ways (ping popular services, set up Social Media profiles etc...) and then get on with making the Blog popular..... works like this;
1. Research and write quality poop
2. Get it infront of the market
3. Everyone loves you
4. Everyone links to you
5. Spiders say...oooo... your popular
6. spiders come back more often to crawl your blog.
In your case.... it looks like a mix of press release type angles and some tips. I am not so sure I would mix them together like that.... but hey..... just me. Anyways, indexation is based on settings to the particular search engine (update frequency, inbound links - and frequency - site age/authority and so on). We cannot merely 'ping' them to do as we please :0)
While I am here... I would consider losing THISand even the web ring stuff.... opt for some more sophisticated link building methods. It is certain that such linking schemes will get less valuable over time ....

Thanks Gypsy,
First of all, thanks for taking the time to look at my website and indeed was thinking already to get rid of those NR links
Second,
When it comes to my RSS feed: It's not so much the purpose to have this on the search engines to be found more easy as it prob is not of interest for a lot of people anyhow...
There are however subscribers to my feed that like to stay informed about the news of our company & website..
When posting a new article, they're not getting this new feed in IGoogle / MyYahoo / MSN / AOL / Etc...
It's simply not updating....
When you add the feed for example to FireFox, it updates fine.. (I guess FF checks by itself on my website)...
So my question remains.. How do I get to update my feeds that people added to their pages / readers..... ??
Note:
I feel like I'm such a dumba$s not understanding this! haha

G'day
You might like to have a look at this post from the other day: http://forums.site-reference.com/viewtopic.php?id=7054
It answers some of your questions. Ignore the bit about the rss on the other blog. That's just a bit of a joke.
You may even consider incorporating a WordPress blog into your site to carry the news articles. It all be done automatically for you once you get it set up.
The other day I followed a link to a PR7 site with the rss feed for my post about the new Australian government at #2 of 1400. I was just behind one of the country's top news papers, SMH, and in front of the rest of the big daily papers, radio and TV news services. A relevant link from a PR7 site, even if it's transient, is worth having huh?
Seems like the more noticeable you become, the more you're picked up and the more noticeable you become and.....
Oh! And welcome to the forum, Mate.
Do stick around. Lots of good stuff in the archives, both posts and articles.
Regards,
Laurie.
