Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

Website for Review
http://www.lalibela.net

Additional Comments
Mkay, i have finished Lalibela (excluding meta info). Everything is the way they want it, in the right places with the appropriate functionality. That is all good and fine but what really matters is what you guys think. At the moment i am in the process of trying to figure out how to get the lalibela.net to take the place of lalibela.co.za with no downtime and hopefully avoid losing my entire linking profile as well as my standing in the serps.  Only thing i can think of is getting the people who host and control the current site to redirect urls to the new one tongue

Hopefully as soon as i remove the robots file and add in the meta info all should escalate beyond that of the current site due to its hugely improved structure.

There are some oddities/differences between ie and firefox but allas, they will remain.

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

this is going to be a short review cause it's one heck of a nice site you got there bud bow

you got everything i look for in a site:

> it's attractive > love the pics...whish you had a whole sections for more
> all the main info i could be looking for is right there in my face- no need to snoop around
> super simple navigation makes for easy browsing

i see the few difference in IE but as you say so be it...petty for the mostpart

the one thing i'm not a fan of is your left menu- you spaced some stuff out and squished some together- i would define them all more

but kudos to you...that's a site to be proud of storstark

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

That's a nice looking site you got there Ryan.  Great layout, consistent design.  The only problem I can dig up is the coding errors:

Code:

Result: 0 errors / 9 warnings

line 76 column 1 - Warning: inserting implicit <p>
line 170 column 7 - Warning: unescaped & which should be written as &amp;
line 313 column 66 - Warning: unescaped & or unknown entity "&id"
line 313 column 76 - Warning: unescaped & or unknown entity "&search"
line 313 column 92 - Warning: unescaped & or unknown entity "&ref"
line 313 column 105 - Warning: unescaped & or unknown entity "&src"
line 330 column 90 - Warning: unescaped & or unknown entity "&c"
line 11 column 2 - Warning: <script> inserting "type" attribute
line 76 column 1 - Warning: trimming empty <p>

But you knew somebody was gonna do that right?

Even in links you can use the (&)amp; to replace the & to avoid confusion.  Note, had to use parenthesis to avoid the entity being converted to &.

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

If yer moving everything I'd have yer plan in place as far as 301s .... it needs to be on a page by page basis... Depends on a few things though... email me, I am pretty busy, but could try and find some time to look into it...

As for the site... well, I could go on as to the SEO readiness.. there is much I would do... even from a conversions stand point I don't see a strong 'Call to Action' or any other USP (unique selling proposition). ... there is much I see.... Please send $600 worth of beer and I will look into it ..he he

Anyway, let me know before you move so we can make sure all yer SE love stays wid ya

The site is great!
The bold colours attract the eye and are make for a more vidually atractive site. Loading times are fast- your pages are simple, this is a good thing! The layout of pictures and links is done very well. Overall, a site well done!

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

The colors look great - especially the red. The pictures are great , nice quality - no blurriness or dark pictures. The only thing I would suggest is linking the side pictures that could bring your visitors to a new page instead of just enlarging the picture in a new window. The quote "The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa, for he has so much to look forward to" is great but you need to put who its by. Good job on the site, it really looks great!

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

Hey guys, sorry for taking so loong to reply... i was out of ton for a few days tongue

Thanks for all your reviews, im glad its coming across the right way in your areas. The coding errors must be in the actual content (its all php includes) so i will havte go through that.

Im really freaking out a bit about the moving of the domain.... oi butter According to them the easiest route ios to do a full transfer... this means losing our emails as the current host and email host are somehow linked. It means downtime on new years and i doubt i will get much online or telephonic support. Can 301's be setup on a iis server?

Im about to pm you dave glad

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

Since most of the coding errors have to do with the ampersands, doing something like this to any string that could contain one should fix it:

Code: php

$newstring = str_replace("&", "&amp;", $oldstring);

This site looks awesome...the colours blend in with the images perfectly, the page loaded extremely quick. All links are positioned in a perfect way. I can see no faults with it whatsoever. Well Done.

Re: Please Review - http://www.lalibela.net

Very appealing to the eyes... color and pics are outstanding.. It makes my site look like a grade schooler developed it..... I didn't get into reading much ... but the pics really caught my attention.
