Hi

I am a professional artist and my website is designed to encourage people to visit me. My computing skills are very limited and the site was constructed using Office Live Basic which means I cannot do a lot of alterations. Ideally i would feedback on the layout of the site - what things are not there that you would expect, etc.

I intend to upload more images, but only after the basics are in place.

Thanks

Re: Please Review - http://artist-at-work.co.uk

Ooeer Margret nice pictures... Like em

Ok to task in hand -  search bar looks odd at top of page
Add for microsoft office looks odd bottom of page
Your artist at work banner should be the same size as rest of banners

The colours ( you know better than me ) do not seem to correspond - dark green , red, olive and pink... doesnt have an artist or artistic feel

You need to watermark your pictures to protect them

Good site and good luck

Thanks for your reply. I have to have the Office link  as it is part of the free website, but I will try to resize my banner and move the search bar.

Thanks again,

Re: Please Review - http://artist-at-work.co.uk

Hello Margaret

Just a few things overall....

Slideshow - lovely :-)
Exhibitions and Awards - a link to the image associated with each award/exhibition would be nice, or the location.
Questions - nice, covers some good questions people would ask
Testimonials - great idea and gives your customers confidence
About Me - you don't need the contact form since you have a contact page with the form
Contact Me - too much bold text I think, little bit like shouting

Generally - too much bold text but it can be hard when you want certain things to stand out...give a few things a try to see what looks good. Size of preview images is great and you give plenty of info

Design - not the best because the colours and boldness are distracting me from your images/artwork, which is what you want people to see. Maybe something smoother....less jagged between colours, greater transitions in colour scheme and a more ordered format to the placement of images/text.... just my thoughts.....

Good luck and cheers!

Thanks for your very detailed response. On reflection I agree with you regarding the colour scheme and am expirementing with a more subdued one.  I will also take your comments on board regarding bold text.

Thanks again, and good luck with your own site.

OK Margaret,  sheesh I won't get into the technical code side.  lol

Nice site, consistent and quick.  storstark

You must have changed the colors already. IMO what you have now is great, soft and not overbearing.  tummenupp

The only downfall I could see setting aside that it is on MS Live. On the "About Me" page. Your reference to "best viewed in IE" is nineties. If you can I would remove this. I use FF and didn't have a problem.

If you can I would also change the page titles to something more descriptive. Home, About Me are too generic. Use something more descriptive;
The home page could be something like - Original Art by Margaret Livingstone
About Me could be something like - About award winning artist Margaret Livingstone

Keep up the great work in both your artwork and the website.

Jody

Re: Please Review - http://artist-at-work.co.uk

Hi ColoEagle

Thanks for reviweing my site. You're right, I have changed my colour scheme and I'm glad it looks OK. Additionally yesterday I finally found out how to get rid of the Live Search bar which was awful looking on my pages. What a difference!

I only mentioned IE because when I view the site in FF (my preferrence) my Pay Now buttons are missing in the gallery and there are no controls to pause or enlarge the slideshow images - if you were able to access these then I will be able to remove this note.

Finally - a very good point about the page titles, and one I hadn't considered. It is for feedback just like this that i posted on this forum.

Thanks very much.

OK,

I have taken everyone's advice on board (I hope), and changed what MS Office Live basic will let me change. Please tell how the site appears now. is it professional enough, does it look trustworthy?

Also if anyone can tell me a fool proof way to get google Ads I wou;ld be very grateful.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Please Review - http://artist-at-work.co.uk

Hey nice work,
simple, sober and soothing

1) The user experience is good, as the navigation is quick and easy
2) Well defined and well planned site
3) It is fulfilling its purpose
4) I beleive the flow of the site is also good and people can easily find your works without any hassles, the slide show is worth appreciating
5) you may wish to work on the colours, visually appealing and contrasts would work good, although it is not bad but can be improved. use some colour schemers available on net.
6) If you could use a header banner to display some of your art work as a collarge, it would be great.
7) you could add some images of your work on the index page and work a bit on its appearnce.

hope it helps
Regards,
Cipher

Thanks Cipher for a very detailed response. i am glad that it is mostly positive. As the site is Office Live Basic I am limited to what I can chage but will be adding new artwork soon, and some of it will go to the site index page.

Thanks again.

Hello Margaret, it is nice to meet another artist.
I enjoyed my visit to your site, you art is scrumptious.
I nearly had a heart attack when I went to the articles page though. My screen went black but then came back. That has never happened before.  I went back again after I viewed your other pages and it was fine. applause
Navigation was easy and smooth and pages are easy on the eye.
Thank you for a nice experience.storstark

Hi

Great art !  Of course all art is great :-)

Ok so......frist thing I read...you are in the  Angus village of Edzell...well that's wonderful. Is that in Iowa ? South Africa ? Perhaps near Prague ?   I good on World Geography  but even Im stumped on Edzell.  You never mention Scotland, not even in the "About the Artist '; section  at all as far as I can tell and there may be a sales value to you to be known as a "Scottish Artist" . So consider an update there.

I woudl add you name in the header eg "Orignal art direct from the artist, Margaret Livingstone" . See how it looks. It personalises the visting experienc more quickly.

You dont seem to have anything called "home-page".  So after a wander around the site I wondered how to get back to the homepage.  Consider a side link to "home "

regards
Ron

Thanks Ron and TeAnne

I really do appreciate the feedback. I hope TeAnnes black sreen is unrelated - no one else has ever reprted it. Ron, good point about Scotland - I will make that adjustment. i renamed my "Home" page as a result of previous feedback and feel it works better. The menu is on all pages so I will stick with it for now. As for the heading - MS Office Live Basic only allows a certain amount of text and I can't make it any longer. Annoying, but it is free and I have to accept there will be some limitations.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Re: Please Review - http://artist-at-work.co.uk

Hello Margaret

I like the look of the website but wonder if the blank spaces left and right are as a result of my widescreen monitor or if this is comonplace, it is distracting but quite possibly something related to my end.

I think that more work on the logo is needed, primarily because it is liberated with 'jaggies' that do little to enhance what seems like a interesting website. When the page initially loaded there was a strange search bar at the top which dissapeared quite bizarre!

The text was easy to read and with limited sight I found this extremely helpful and osmething I would like to see throughout more sites. The chioce of colour was pleasing and I like this site even as one who would not normally visit such a site.

Well Done

Re: Please Review - http://artist-at-work.co.uk

Thanks whitbycolin,

The white spaces are a new one to me - I will look into it. I agree with the logo - it is a temporary until  i can get something I like. The search bar is placed by MS Office Live who host my nsite - it is a must have, but I have a code to hide it. A compromise I know but better than a pointless search bar on every page. Glad my site was easy to read - I am trying to make it as accessible as possible, and of genreal interst as well as art specific.

Thanks for your comments..
