Re: Eye tracking for Universal and Personalized search

I hadn’t really thought too much into images, video, and other multimedia for SEO.  I really have been concentrating on relevant backlinks and relevant internal links.  Maybe this is an area which I should now concentrate on..... Do you think this is likely to be the way forward if all the directories and link farms get wiped out?

Re: Eye tracking for Universal and Personalized search

While the SEO road has some signs that indicate that the SERPs could be affected by user behavior, e.g. click through etc.  Personalized search is an area to watch.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying that setting up for eye tracking will improve your SERP position. But with some testing and a little luck, it can improve retention and conversion.

SEO via images, video, and other multimedia has been around for a while now, welcome to Universal Search.

I wouldn’t really lump directories in with link farms. There are some very good resource directories that drive revenue for many merchants and manufactures. Even some of the sites at DP offer some benefit, at a granular level that is.

Re: Eye tracking for Universal and Personalized search

I agee, I wouldnt normally assocate link farms and directories.  But Im starting to feel that might be the way google are starting to look at them, expecailly after hering some of matt cutts 'paid for links' rants

http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-to-report-paid-links/

So many directories charge (sorry, going very off topic now), but the ones that dont may stay alive for a bit longer.

ill start a new thread related to  this (since its off topic)

You give Matt way too much credence, Matt farts and everyone lays down like a rug so he can walk on them. Most of the things he spouts are spam related and really don’t effect a solid SEO campaign, molding relevance, KWP KW research, etc.

Mr T is a busy bee.........

I think you hit the nail on the head ... you seem fixated with links. While still important, that is just sooooo 2005 :0) ... layer upon layer of weighting/rankings mechanisms have been added to the core nodal type rankings with G... but since you like relevance and I like giving you stuff to read, try; Using Relevance in your SEO.

As for Matt, as Charles eluded to, he is actually the head of the Web Spam team which is part of the Search Quality dept....while he has worked on mor than a few Google patents, and is certainly well aware of the goings on, his primary area of focus is Web Spam... (and public relations/FUD?)

Nothing... as long as you call them 'advertising'. That's where I get miffed with Google and the paid link FUD. How in the hell can they establish intent? I would never pay a monthly fee for a link unless I believed I would actually get some traffic.....
