Logo Schmogo
Ok.. here's another one... http://www.site-reference.com/articles/ … -Logo.html
I tell ya... I used to be the defacto logo designer around Verve and was always amazed at the amount of useless energy clients put into the logo design...... funky fonts.. icons and 'mascots' ... bla bla bla bla...
Look around you at the major brands... I'd say 90% of them are simply the company name in some semi-standard font. It is awareness that builds brand. It is quality service/products that build a brand. It is top notch customer service that builds brand..... and a fe other goodies....
Your logo won't build your freakin brand nor will it harm it (unless obscene of course). Like a continuation of my rant to web designers, you should be focusing more on your offering(s), marketing, CRM and so on - rather than worked up about the design of a site nor a logo.....
Look around you at the logos in the home/office on trusted products... most are quite simple... don't get carried away......
</rant>

Dats it doll..... they either love me or hate me or grudgingly respect me .... the logo won't change that.

Re: Logo Schmogo
Thats ludicrous... a logo is a companies identity... it defines a company to anyone looking in... and more importantly it is a significant display of... ah bugger it, im talking crap, the company makes the logo famous... you could have a sports warehouse logo that looks like a dolphin caught in a fish net and it will still grow in popularity as the company does... especially if you get an aab catch phrase to go with it... like, nobody catches the best like you do with sportsmans warehouse... blah blah... i do enjoy making pretty logos though

Re: Logo Schmogo
I didn't think of this till now, but we'll be studying this very subject in the coming year.
I'm doing a website re-design, where the old one doesn't even have a logo. Just the name of the company in text. And I don't mean "plain text is the company logo", I mean someone physically made the frickin page that way.... plain text.
The actual logo, is not only VERY professional looking, but it's also simple, to the point, and catchy.
When I get the thing done, I'm going to ask for a site review, and also have some screen shots available of the old one so you can see the big difference.
What I'm hoping to see here is better conversions via professional design..... cause the old one sucks BAD!!!

Re: Logo Schmogo
professional design is indeed a plus for many sites. But remember to assure them that they have arrived at the right place as well offering the perception that you are able to deliver results. Freebies and speed can also help make a difference. You guys will find my upcoming site a bit interesting, it has zero white space, the colors and branding should really help people associate our site with being able to fulfill their actual needs.

Hmmm -- what kind of freebies, WS? Not all sites will be able to provide any type of freebies, like mine for instance ... looking forward to seeing your new site!

I couldn't agree with you more WS...far too often do i open a site and am left wondering what the heck it's all about
pictures do convey some sense of what a site's theme is but don't forget to use words- and if you're site is complex guide me along
in most industries there are far too many sites and options offering the same stuff you are so value each visitor you get and make sure their experience is a simple as possible- confused visitors never buy

TA, the offers don’t necessarily have to be something tangible or even a current product. Though it requires a little testing and dabbling with different offers, you can try things like offering free shipping for customers that double up, a promotional item like a pen or mouse pad (most of which are surprisingly cheap), a discount on future purchases, etc. Invest 50c to $5.00 per offer and profits will increase.
We have customers that specifically buy 2 shirts just so they can get free shipping or a Hawaiian lei, they will actually call us just to remind us not to forget the free lei. So it is apparently quite important that they walked away with a good deal
Scour over a few of our current Aloha freebies and maybe it will trigger an idea or 2
Oh, as long as you don’t look at the source you will like it, its CSS and tables and I didn’t bother closing many font tags. But we did use a professional artist in Hawaii for the graphics. Eivissu does nice work

What source code?
Nah; don't care about anyone's source code anymore, just as long as mine is as perfect as I can get it.
I looked at your freebies and still can't think of anything I can put on my site that would be of any interest -- { shrugs } -- will have to ponder that for awhile.

TA, how about a complimentary airline pillow (they all use them, hint, hint) or a featured customer of the month page (prospective customers may be enticed by that)

WS, that would've been a good idea 5 - 10 yrs ago, but since all of the Airlines today CHARGE for a frigging pillow, I'm not willing to put out more money beyond my shipping costs on business cards so that someone can have a $17 - $34 "airline pillow".

Free information doesn't cost anything to ship.
I keep harping on the benefits of offering people tips, suggestions, specials and hints, and yours would be travel related...only costs some time and effort and can be sent out via email.
Couldn't resist getting involved.

I agree -- free information doesn't cost anything to ship -- but, WS is talking about shipping them a "product" that will cost me ... that isn't good business sense in my book.
