Many of you here at SR volunteer a lot of time and effort to help others. You go out of your way to provide answers and solutions for your fellow members and we think that’s amazing!

Seeing what some had done for their blogs, we created a couple of new ways which, at your discretion, will allow you to show your appreciation to other members for their help.

The first option is a THANK ME button. If you believe someone merits a “thank you”, please feel free to hit their button which can be found underneath their avatar. This will record 1 additional thank you in their profile (“I’ve been thank “  “ times). As the sender of the Thank You, you remain anonymous.

The second option is a GIVE ME A TIP (GMAT) button. Using this, as with the Thank Me button, is again completely up to you. We suggest you only use the GMAT button in extreme cases if at all (couple of examples: someone went completely out of their way to help you and saved you days of work, or it’s your forum friend’s birthday).

When you hit another member’s GMAT button you will be taken to a PayPal checkout page which will ask if you want to send the member you selected a tip. The minimum tip is $3 USD and can only be increased in increments of $3 using the “Quantity” option.

At this time we are only able to use PayPal in conjunction with the GMAT option. If you do not have a PayPal account we apologize and will try to accommodate more options in the future.

To ACTIVATE your GMAT button please:

1) Login to the forums
2) Select “Profile” from the top menu options
3) Select the “Tip Me Settings” from the Profile Menu on the left
4) Enter your PayPal email address in the space provided
5) Click “Submit”

*Please note that if you do NOT activate your GMAT button it will NOT appear. 

GMAT Options:

We’ve created several options for you to choose from. If you look at my profile to the left you will see I have chosen the “Buy Me A Coffee” option. You can select your GMAT button to show any one of the following:

> Give Me A Tip (default)
> Buy Me A Beer
> Buy Me Coffee
> Buy Me Flowers
> Buy Me Candy

To change the appearance of your GMAT button to one of the above options please:

1) Login to the forums
2) Select “Profile” from the top menu options
3) Select the “Tip Me Settings” from the Profile Menu on the left
4) Select your desired GMAT button from the dropdown Tip Me Style menu
5) Click “Submit”


A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: These options were created just to add an element of fun to the forums. WE DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO FEEL OBLIGATED TO USE EITHER OF THESE FEATURES AT ANYTIME. Site-Reference members help each other because that’s what we do as a community; we look out for one another. We do not expect anything for our efforts, so please do not feel like you ever need to thank or tip someone. Use these options at your own discretion.

And remember that the best way to thank someone is simply by replying to their post with your own thank you message.

Hi Nic, thanks for taking the time to add some fun things. But I dont believe that it should be adding Shipping and Handling to a tip.

Ah come on Charles…you of all people know that someone has to package the tip, deliver it, and so on…all that work just doesn’t get done for free

Hi Nic, in IE both of mine say PM like gypsy’s but in FF it changes to showing the thank me and website button but no PM buttons are visible

IE 7 on Vista OS

Both versions Nic -- MSIE is worlds away from catching up to the current W3C standards -- Firefox is far more intelligent.

i realize that, but like i said it works fine for me and the several others i asked to check in both ie 7 (for me...not sure what the others were using) and FF, however there is obviously a problem somewhere since u guys see that so just trying to figure out why that would be...on it though....

Wll I dont think its a browser issue. Nic, the button in question is aimed at misc.php?email=409

The button function launches the Email and I believe if you do not have an email listed in your profile you would not see it. Mine is set to "Hide your e-mail address but allow form e-mail."

i think we've already determined its not a browser issue...

Nic, it looks like all you need to do is associate something like a email.png to that particular function. It appears that all that’s really wrong is that both functions are sharing the same .png

It looks like you're pointing both contact options to the same icon.

Guys, mind if I get a few screenshots? I don't get what you get, and everything seems perfectly normal from my point of view.

Any special cases where this occurs or it's all the time? Would love as much information as you guys could provide, so it can be fixed. Thanks.
