Social Networking List -- a Group Effort?!
Just dawned on me, as I was responding to someone in another folder -- wouldn't it be helpful to one another, if we listed the different social networking sites that we know something about, just in case they are perfect for someone's niche? When I think "social networking," I tend to visualize ones I just don't fit into (too old.) But, they're just coming into vogue, and there are quite a variety that I'm sure we all must stumble across occasionally. Maybe what interest us, might interest someone else on this forum, and, more importantly, give them some places they might be interested in joining to promote their niche passively.
With that, I'll list the ones I know, in case they might be helpful to others. (Excuse me, if they aren't officially social networking sites. The term is still vague to me.) Please add yours, and let's see if we can get something going.
Eons.com -- It's tag line is "loving life on the flip side of 50," so is basically for Baby Boomers.
Gather.com -- Mostly for folks who think they are writers and photographers, but also fun to critique other's works. You name it, they have a niche for it, and, if they don't, you can always start one. Also, an interesting location for article writing, if you want a concentration of specific interested people.
Flickr.com -- probably already known by most, but a great way of adding photos, and finding kindred souls, who like the same kinds of photos as you.
GardenWeb.com -- for anyone, who has a single plant to a grand garden, but mostly for those in-between.
I can also add some for Teddy Bear lovers, of course, but I think I'm the only bear nut on this board. If you'd like that list, I can send you some links for those, too.

Re: Social Networking List -- a Group Effort?!
OK, so it's not a brilliant idea -- or it is, but not an original idea! Interesting variety of communities in Wiki and your blog, Wave! Social Networking has been more wide spread then MySpace for quite some time. (Well, online "quite some time" is a year or longer.)
Thanks for the add ons, and Wave, umm, you can add your bloglog to Wiki, if you want. I think it fits. My sites benefited from Wiki exposure for a while, and when I'm finishes with a particular article, they will again.
IMO, your site is part of the definitive background info for Aloha shirts, so I would think Wiki could help ya there, too -- after all, Wiki's article seems to assume all such shirts must originate from the island -- a correction you might like to handle.
Thanks for the help, Nic and Wave.

Re: Social Networking List -- a Group Effort?!
Hi Lynn, yes Wiki's article does seem to assume that all Hawaiian shirts must originate from the island and many of them do. We wrote an origional article on the Origins of the Hawaiian shirt
But I would add that most of the raw materials are imported from overseas so there are some gray areas. We also manufacture Hawaiian shirts in Honolulu (we also have a second private label) so we are a reputable and legitimate resource, regardless of where we have our store fronts. We happen to sell a lot of shirts made in San Diego to Hawaii because they are made in the USA, many sold in HI are not.

Mama Scruffy,
Oops! Maybe I should have suggested the only one, who would ADMIT to being a Teddy Bear nut, but, hehehe, wrong there, too! LOL
I don't know how willing my hubby is to admitting such kind of nuttiness, but, he is the one who encouraged me into assuming bears have their own voices, by having his bear (Teddy T.) make smart alex remarks, when the mood hit. He received his bear, right before he was forced to quit his job as a computer techy pushed into dispatching. I was making outfits for bought bears, thinking I could sell them, and he suggested that I make one into a computer techy - complete with kaukis, chambrey shirt, suspenders, pocket protector, and even horn-rimmed glasses wrapped around his neck. The bear went on that first vacation with us, so I could continue making the outfit, assuming hubby was getting a job, when we returned home. (He became sick, then disabled instead.) That's when I started taking pictures of bears on vacation, verses the traditional fat, middle-aged couple pictures. LOL In hubby's defense (as if he needed one LOL), we started this whole alternate reality, when he became very sick, and needed a laugh.
Now, I don't think he tells his buddies about the bear, but since one of his buddies is nuts about penguins, and so, while in his 50s, has collected a variety, including stuffed ones, sometimes hubby picks one up, so it can crack a joke, using the same voice as he does for his bear. With that, I know big tough guys enjoy teddies, even if they won't admit it to anyone outside the home. LOL
For some of the social networking places (message boards usually) that I've found for teddy bear lovers, check out the links page on my...ummm the bear's web site. Hopefully, one or more of your bears will join us! LOL

Wave,
Ummm, our bears do our fighting for us, and all they do is moon each other (then my bears ask if I looked, and call me a perv, when they find out I did. LOL)
Thanks for the PM...it's not an official Wiki article, so, what is it exactly? Looks cool!
