LOL - so you can't pay for your own hosting but you can pay others for trying free hosting. Ironic?

Not really ironic.  I don't pay anything out of my pocket for that offer.  I just split the referral amount.

So you can set the admin and technical contacts, lock - unlock and generate codes to transfer out without fees? If yes to all it's cool.

I don't really know what all that means.  I meant that you own the domain outright.  You are the contact and you can transfer it., change dns settings, etc.  I don't know if transfer costs money or not.  I've never had to transfer a domain anywhere.  I don't know if that's what you mean by "generate codes."

Who? How? I'm interested because of recently paying out $4,000 as an investment on future domain purchases at eNom, now looking for alternative ways to shift them and get some return!

The name of place is DNTemple.

Cool! Trying something similar with AdSense on a site at the moment, just impression splitting.

I'd check the small print to make sure there's no fee to transfer out, a lot of hosts apply that. EPP codes are keys that tell registrars to shift a domain from one provider to another.

Just looked at DNTemple - how long does it take you to get a free domain?

Re: Free Web Hosting?

You get 10 dnbucks for a new topic and 5 dnbucks for a reply.

.com, .net, is 1000 dnbucks, .info is 300 dnbucks.  You can also gain dnbucks by performing tasks that other members post such as Stumbleing or Digging their articles, posting a comment on their blog, registering on their forum, etc.  Some people are paying dnbucks to have you click on their adsense.

I joined the place in July 2007, but didn't start posting regularly until Jan 2008.  Since then I have two info domains and also paid out about 300 dnbucks to get others to Stumble me.  glad

Re: Free Web Hosting?

G'day davinci.

If I'm understanding right, it seems like an awful lot of work to do to save the cost of a domain name and small hosting package. Ya know, for under AU$100 you can get a domain name and quality hosting with all the accompanying gadgets and helps you could possibly need.

Mind you, I'm all for freebies. Beside domain and hosting I don't spend much.

Regards,
Laurie.

Re: Free Web Hosting?

I agree, there's a part of me that's shocked at the lengths people will go to in order to get a freebie, there's another part of me that's excited by their efforts. It's the part of me that's excited that's now working out how to make those efforts work for me!

I've just registered dompoints as .com .net .org .mobi and .co.uk

Let me work out a deal here but I'm thinking something like 1 article submission = XX points. Earn 1000 points and get a free domain.

I've loads of projects I need promoting, if I can create a website where people can earn a free domain name for promoting my stuff I'm well up for it! Proper win-win stuff.

I don't even want to play registrar here. Anyone getting a domain will also get their own eNom account so they deal direct with the registrar and have 100% control and ownership of the domain. I'll pay for the domain, set you up with an eNom account and push the domain to you so it's yours.

Big hat-tip and kudos to Site Reference forums for giving me another fantastic idea from thin air!!!!!!

This place can sometimes be dangerous for creativity levels!

I don't think it is a lot of work.  No more work than posting on this forum.  And who said anything about small?.  My host gives me 3G space, 10G transfer, and unlimited everything else (domains, mysql, email accounts, etc).  I don't know, maybe this is small for you.  For a site that is just starting out it is more than enough.

This is a case of 'to each their own.'   Paid hosting doesn't give me anything I can't get in free hosting, including uptime.

Peace glad

hmmmm.... 100 new topics or 200 replies? Lemme see....

New Topic - 5 minutes (coming to the site, getting the idea and posting) - or 500 min ( or 8.33 hrs)

8hrs @ $150 = $1200

Reply 2 minutes (not a one word crap reply) - or 400 min (6.7hrs)

7hrs @ $150 = $1050

Man, I better talk to Nic.... he owes me a shite load....

Re: Free Web Hosting?

Ok, didn't read every post...

But, seriously...I pay $25. That gets me the domain name and a full year of hosting.

$25/year for the domain and hosting. Doesn't get much better than that.

Think you don't get much?

- 5000MB (5Gb) Storage
- 10Gb Bandwidth/Month
- 20 Subdomains
- Unlimted FTP accounts
- 2 MySQL Databases (this is the only area I think they could increase some)
- 20 Email Accounts
- 2 Mailing Lists
- Hosted on a Red Hat box running Apache.
- cPanel with Fantastico
- Downloadable Daily Backup
- Whole bunch more!

Yeah its not the best, but for $25 I think its a nice deal. Company is called 3ix.

Re: Free Web Hosting?

Hi, Mark.

Can I ask you a question?  You get 5Gb space with your account and that's a lot.  But with only 2 databases and 20 email accounts, you are pretty much limited in the sites you can have on this account.  So, would you say that your account is better suited to one or two large sites, rather than a number of smaller ones?

A lot of people want to try and make money on the web.  I think most beginners would rather start the learning curve without having to shell out any money of their own.  That's where the free hosts and yes, even, the free domain forums, come in very handy.  Once a person has achieved some level of success then a move to an account like yours may be in order.

Don't take this the wrong way, but in all honesty I get all that and more for free.  Yes, I have to spend time but I'm not as expensive as some people on this forum.  blinka
