Re: Good or bad marketing ploy?
Interesting.... kind of a 'Barter for publicity' really no? Seems like almost a 'Pay per post' scenario except you get a characature instead of cash.....
let us know how that goes M8....
If ya want a ripple... try the world of Link Baiting.
Link Baiting; http://www.searchenginejournal.com/link … ding/2797/
Hooks; http://www.stuntdubl.com/2007/01/12/linkbaiting-hooks/
If you read up on hooks, it shows some great examples to create a ‘ripple’.

Re: Good or bad marketing ploy?
Great idea Matt, and best of luck to ya.
I'm actually about to see the fruits of that labor shortly, myself. As some of you know, I've paid for a TON of advertising this season, and a vast majority of which didn't pan out... at all. Heck, my sales are DRASTICALLY lower than what I spent.
The boss? - "Oh well... lesson learned, and we won't do it again next year."
However, recently I got some product to a guy in a major pub (in our market anyways) and he's doing a whole editorial review thats coming in the July issue. I'm very interested in seeing how "content wrapped product placement" affects sales.
Will let everyone know.....

Re: Good or bad marketing ploy?
Its not a bad idea - especially if you get a good enough giveaway. The motivation is going to come from people who really want the free product or giveaway...not just anything free.
My thoughts - its a solid concept. The execution of it will be interesting to watch, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Re: Good or bad marketing ploy?
Just remember - those you're looking to give this promo to are those who will advertise on your behalf.
Writing about it, writing reviews, recommending people to you etc.
Everybody likes something for nothing, so the trick is finding people who would give you something back with you asking for it (the advertising)
But I'm guessing you already knew this

Yes, even if its not the caricature aspect they find appealing, there is the opportunity to write about maybe the strategy, so two shots and getting things happening....

Not sure about the marketing ploy, but you have an error.
DIGG THIS, you might want to make that whole text clickable, rather then IGG this.

Re: Good or bad marketing ploy?
Gypsy, thanks for reminding me of stuntdubls page on hooks, I read it when it was published but forgot about it. Viral marketing with “hooks” is interesting stuff, but I wanted to mention to the readers that you can also incorporate hooks in your on-page copy to increase your conversions. Even something as subtle as “the design has a slimming effect” can stimulate an increase in conversion.

Looks like a good idea to me. The only thing about contests is that the majority of people that come around for the treats, do not remain after the candy is gone.
Anything else you're interested in is not going to happen if you can't breathe the air and drink the water. Don't sit this one out. Do something. You are by accident of fate alive at an absolutely critical moment in the history of our planet. (Carl Sagan)

Hi Matte,
I think your fish caricature is awsome. I was thinking of one for my business Newsletter. Maybe my head in a cup of coffee on the front page. lol
What's the cost? Interested in bartering? I put out a newsletter 1x a month. I could put a link to your web page
in my newsletter in exchange for a caricature. Just thinking out loud.
