Yahoo 301 and 302s its way to your site

Do a search in yahoo

In the SERPs take a look at the underlying URL that takes you to a page, it starts

http://rds.yahoo.com/

And here is an example of the headers for one such link:

Code:

    [0] => HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
    [1] => Date: Mon, 04 Jun 2007 09:33:48 GMT
    [2] => Location: http://rd8.search.dcn.yahoo.com/SIG=12aak7nou/EXP=1181035578/**http%3a//www.yell.com/quickclicks/SP/K/KARTING/yorkshire
    [3] => Connection: close
    [4] => Content-Type: text/html
    [5] => HTTP/1.1 302 Found
    [6] => Date: Mon, 04 Jun 2007 09:33:48 GMT
    [7] => Cache-Control: private, max-age=0, no-cache
    [8] => P3P: policyref="http://p3p.yahoo.com/w3c/p3p.xml", CP="CAO DSP COR CUR ADM DEV TAI PSA PSD IVAi IVDi CONi TELo OTPi OUR DELi SAMi OTRi UNRi PUBi IND PHY ONL UNI PUR FIN COM NAV INT DEM CNT STA POL HEA PRE GOV"
    [9] => Location: http://www.yell.com/quickclicks/SP/K/KARTING/yorkshire
    [10] => Connection: close
    [11] => Content-Type: text/html
    [12] => HTTP/1.0 200 OK
    [13] => Date: Mon, 04 Jun 2007 09:34:06 GMT
    [14] => Server: Apache
    [15] => Cache-Control: private
    [16] => Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID=egNG08JbOIj6ZZyf2l; path=/
    [17] => Connection: close
    [18] => Content-Type: text/html

What does this tell you?

The most obvious thing it tells me is that yahoo is now logging clicks in it's SERPs

That the yahoo SERPs have been abused in the recent past?

Must be an "on - and - off" thing then, cos they've not been doing it for the last 3 months and then all of a sudden - this week (last week) it staretd

[only cos it messes up my stats package that I noticed lol]

Re: Yahoo 301 and 302s its way to your site

I've seen it for a while too, but it might be that it's being rolled out to different countries at different times.

For example, I was anxiously awaiting for Yahoo chat to work in my Yahoo Mail from a blog posting I read back in January, and it just arrived 2 days ago.

Another question might be...are they using it to determine the ranking?

FYI: Listings in the Yahoo directory don't do this, only search results
