Alexa measures how many people visits a site...but how do they do that?

Answer: through their toolbar. Therfore only peolpe who have downloaded the Alexa toolbar are counted in the results.

So you may have a popular site but if no none of you visitors are using the Alexa toolbar then they won't be counted

With ya North.... it's all about the traffic..... that's the guage to be following (and rankings if yer into that)..... a great Alexa ir Google Toolbar ranking ain't much if it don't mean traffic....

PR rank is good, but anything up to and including a Google rank of 5 is too easy to buy and/or fudge and thus is no real measure of traffic, value or worth. Anything higher is progressively higher to attain.

I personal hold no value to Yahoo's system as if considers internal links within it's algorithms and thus is useless as a measure of external value.

Alexa is a reasonable measure - perhaps - and then only if you are in the top 500, perhaps for 100. It relies almost entirely on the toolbar (which despite their denials still has spyware issues) and is mostly installed by webmasters (but not this webmaster, nuh uh! ). Plus, certainly up to perhaps the 100,000 rank mark it is incredibly easy to fudge it you intended to do so.

For about £1,000 to can get a million visitors to your site, supposedly. Getting all those are interested customers and conversation would be great - more likely your are getting a tonne of bandwidth eaten up and, oh yes, a world of bad press from huge numbers (possibly) tricked into visiting you.

Nope, realistically anything but genuine, organically grown traffic is futile.
