Which PPC provider is best?

This is in reference to this SR article that will appear on Friday:

http://www.site-reference.com/articles/ … Study.html

As I point out in the Editor Note the author’s findings should not be interpreted to mean that 7Search and Google are the best PPC providers in general. Simply that for his campaign they were best.

Different people will experience different results. The bottom 2 (GoClick and Lycos) may even work best for some.

The point the author makes which I think is very important is that analytics should not stop at the CTR (click thru rate) but rather to the cost per desired action (desired action being a sale or sign-up for example).

I can admit when it comes to analytics and paying more attention to them I have a long ways to go. However whether you’re like me or analytics obsessed focusing on the right figures is crucial.

Re: Which PPC provider is best?

One also needs to know how the advertising agency handles the syndication of your adverts as well.

For example - yahoo/overture is simply who bids the highest gets top spot.

Where as adwords is based on bid, quality score and performance and has dynamic adverts.

From experiance (of observing others) I can see that adwords is probably the best if you know what you're doing [where I work at the moment pays far less for a top spot ad than the second place ad pays for it's position, but when the ad is in position 3 it gets the best CTR]

The market also has an influence - the preference of SE that your target audience use. I don't yet know what type of people use which engine but from figures and stats i've seen over the few years I've been in internet marketing show me that people with widely differing interests and lifestyles use different search engines.

Re: Which PPC provider is best?

I do use Google AdWords for most PPC campaigns. The reason is, it is most popular, has the - by far - largest distribution range and it is VERY FAST to use. From the idea for a new campaign to have it running there are just a few minutes. If you ever used Yahoo (Overture) you know it is damn sloooow. butter

Another reason for using AdWords is, you CAN get lower click prices as you are allowed to start as low as 1 cent only. This really is a great advantage. O.K. a disadvantage of AdWords is that due to highest competition for almost any keyword, real click prices are much higher. But still it is doable.

This especially comes into effect when running dedicated AdWords Content Network campaigns. Very often you can get clicks for 6 cents and below here, still with acceptable visibility. blinka

Nevertheless, I tend using Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture) and other smaller PPC networks as well as they are a good thing to go to further markets and customers, sometimes at low price and with less competition. But it is WORK. Google did a good job at making the use of AdWords so fast and easy. That's a main reason why they grew so popular.

Guess it will be interesting to watch this forum thread about PPC to learn other peoples ideas and what they tend to do in regards to PPC advertising... book

Re: Which PPC provider is best?

I’ve only used Yahoo and Google myself and I think my findings were pretty standard:

Google:

> far more relevant
> far great click through rate
> better back end

Yahoo:

> far greater revenue per click

So with that said I use a mix of both…. (NOTE: you can't use both on the same PAGE, but you can use both on the same SITE)

When it is crucial that the ads be extremely relevant to the price content on a page I used Google…because that’s the only people click on the ads

When the content does not need to be a “perfect” match to the content on the page...but still somewhat close to the theme of the site and I can get away with it I use Yahoo because I will generate far more $ from each click

…like everything else it just takes some patience and testing. Simply adding some code to your site and expecting it to bring in big bucks may not work all that well. Finding out which PPC program to go with is simply step 1 in the multi step PPC optimization journey anyone displaying ads should head down.
