Back in the stone age of website marketing (1999), I used to use Web Trends.
Is that still the program to use for website analytics? Or has something better come out?
I use Google analytics http://www.google.com/analytics/ which seem to be popular these days
there are some super fancy ones but Google A is probably tops among the freebies
Nic is right -- that's what 1000's of us use now, until something better comes along.

I'd never use google analytics
I'd love to get full version of urchin installed and get all our sites on it, but for now i use AWstats and some stuff i built myself.
There's only so much information you can get out of your weblogs, and they're only useful if you know what you're looking for and act on the information you get.

Thanks for your responses.
I'm looking at the data for my website and realize I don't know WHAT I'm looking at.
For example: Here's a line from my stats:
# Hits Files KBytes Visits Hostname
13 999 0.88% 0 0.00% 316 0.03% 0 0.00% catz-fps1.shop.sp1.yahoo.com
The 13th most busiest host was from someone on yahoo, with nearly a thousand hits.
But ZERO files or visits are registered?
How is that possible?
What was this person from yahoo doing? Pinging my site to death?
Should I be concerned about lines like this in my log files?

Maybe I should've been more clear -- I do use Urchin, so why can't you use it? All you need is a G-Mail account.
sorry i fell victim to the "replybeforereadingtheentirepost" syndrome and looked for an article that explains analytic terms...
so for anyone that wants an explenation here is a good reference: Analytic Terms
As far as your question hopefully someone else can shed better light then I. My best guess would be that site was trying to access something that may no longer be on yours? (i could be wayyyyyy off on this though)
Thanks nic.

i can use google urchin, but i don't WANT to
1 - i don't want google knowing about my stats
2 - i don't want yahoo and msn to know google have my websats
3 - the page limit on google urchin is too low
5 - i don't want a separate account for each website
4 - i don't want google knowing i have over 300 domains
I would rather pay for urchin, have it running on my own servers and keep the info away from the SEs. In fact, we already have urchin installed on one server but it's only looking at 10 of our 300+ domains, and I want to get it looking at all of them
