Promote business forum

Hi guys,
I need your advice how to promote business forum. If it would be technical forum it would be easier for me because i have a lot of friend who is related with it. So what about business forum?

How to start fill it with content? I have an idea to send messages to companies with invitation.
Do you have any ideas?

here is a link: http://canada.businessforumnews.com

P.S. I have already put link on some web sites - i had 100 visitors for 2 weeks and only 4 registered users. I created "Press releases" sub forum where companies can put descriptive information about their business -  I think it will be interesting for business owners.

Re: Promote business forum

Hmmm.... Pretty limited, but if you can (over a long time) get this thing big enough, you'll be able to bring in some really nice cash.

However, right now it's pretty small.... just a forum. Needs to be more dynamic, professional, and quick-n-dirty.

Example - A couple of the B2B sites I visit all the time are Alibaba.com and Tradkey.com. These sites have a wealth of knowledge, and easy to navigate... which is why people stay there, and why people pay $500+ per year to be trusted members. Then of course they get ad dollars, etc.

You've at least got a start, but I highly recommend something much more robust than a forum in order to get visitors to sign up. You need that 'stick' value... pretty tough to get sometimes. Just keep hammering at it.

Play around at the competition sites to get some ideas going. Then start dabbling.

Oh yeah... change the color, but thats just my opinion. glad

Re: Promote business forum

I have to question your choice of catgories....you may want to trim the amount of forums down until it gets busy and then expend- otherwise your PEI forum may be empty fo a long time

however i realize you really didn't ask for our opinions on the layout so i won't say anything else abou that blinka

as far as marketing it all depends...what's your budget, how's your audiance, etc

you may want to look into the different chambers of commerce in Canada...also perhaps approaching universities and their biz programs- target the students to exchange ideas there (just throwing ideas out off the top of my head)

i think if you have just a forum and nothing else its going to be a long uphill battle- you may want to consider doing something like this site - have another section that offers news for example which attracts people - then it's easier for them to join the forum

Re: Promote business forum

It seems we are in the same shoes my friend. What we are doing to promote our forum is that we are currently holding a raffle promo. The idea is to have people post at least 10 articles and refer friends to our forum. This way we hope to build our traffic little by little. We give away token  prizes like video ipod and membership upgrade in friendsearch (among other token prizes).

Check our promotion and try to promote your forum there as well.
