Having good incoming traffic is great but whatabout

the traffic that leaves without buying?

Is there an easy way to find out why a visitor hasn't bought? I'm thinking of a box with a few predefined options. Any ideas about

1 - Best questions??

2 - Something that can be dropped into an off the shelf ecom site like Actinic???

3 - The pros and cons for doing this?

I cannot believe that Actinic sell a site that allows my visitors to pass through the shop without being stopped:(

Appreciate your help!tummenupp

Re: Having good incoming traffic is great but whatabout

if your getting a lot of traffic that leaves without buying, it just means that you could be doing a better job at qualifying your traffic

adding a box to ask them why they don't buy isn't likely to work, because the ones that are simply leaving aren't likely to respond anyway

you need a better understanding of where your visitors are coming from and what they were looking for, and then you need to make a realistic assessment of how well your offer lines up with that

finally - did you tell them to buy ?  the natural tendency is to try to avoid the hardsale and be nice and polite, but if you want to convert your traffic you need to be assertive and tell people to order

features of your offer -->> needs/wants of your traffic -->> how your offer fills those needs -->> ask em to buy

your visitors are visiting because you're offering a solution to some problem they may not even know they have, its your job to figure out what that problem is and make them aware of the problem - aggravate the situation so to speak, then present how your product or service solves that problem and ask for the order - its simple really

Re: Having good incoming traffic is great but whatabout

Should move this thread to the new conversions section....

But to toss in my two cents - What is your conversion rate right now? Most sites (depending on your niche market, location, etc) get somewhere between 1% and 6%..... so I'm told.

Thats not a whole lot, and probably answers your question.

Thats not to say that it can't possibly be increased tho. Mutilated had some great tips there.... which I myself need to employ here soon. I have dabbled in some of those things, but very little. It is paying off a bit, but now I need to really crank it up with a good site-wide modification.

Re: Having good incoming traffic is great but whatabout

thing to be careful with about your conversion rate is that you can't be sure its low because you're not selling - sometimes its low because you're getting unrelated traffic that you don't necessarily care about

you want to make sure you're measuring your conversion rate against your qualified traffic and not against random un-targetted surfers
