One Time Offers
May as well make use of this lovely new forum...
here's a question for you people (mostly out of curiosity) - how many of you use One Time Offers (OTO) on your e-commerce sites?
If you don't any specific reasons?
In case you may not be familiar with OTO's they are similar to an upsell such as supersized meals at McDick's...
Basically let's say i'm selling software on my site- you go to buy it, and right before you checkout i take you to a page that says something along the lines of "wait before you make your final purchase- right now only you can also get this other software for only $A.BC"
Now none of my sites are really setup to be able to do something like this very well- but from all those I know who use OTO say they get amazing conversion rates- as by the time they offer them to thier customers they are already in "buying mode" (ie- on their way to checkout)
thoughts?

Re: One Time Offers
I don't offer that just yet, but I've heard that it does really well.
It is something that I'll be jumping into soon, but it might not be exactly what you're talking about.

Re: One Time Offers
Probably is the same thing- the name kind of throws you off as it really should be called an upsell
I believe the reason the call them One Time Offers is because most of the ones i've seen go a little something like this- after you've selected a product/service from a site and are about to pay for it a screen will come up with text saying...
"Before you checkout, I've like to give you this one time opportunity to get product X for only $Y...."

Re: One Time Offers
Yeah, I'd call that an up-sale. Same thing McD's does - "Would you like fries with that?"
I'm willing to bet money that it's extremely effective.
I don't have the capacity to make that happen on my site tho.... sucks, cause i KNOW i could cash in on some more sales if I could.
I wonder how many people here have an e-commerce site? I know a lot you guys have adsense type sites... I might be one of the few......

Re: One Time Offers
I dont like the one time offer thing, as a customer i mean. I would feel suckered if i was already trying to give you money and you tried to get more outa me... it would have to be a damn good offer
On the other side of the fence though, its a great idea, especially if you can provide a one time offer on something relevant to the product they are buying... like windows and ms office.
Dont think i could use it for Lalibela though, evrytime they send a booking enquiry i could offer... urm... a lalibela cap for R10 less? That could actually work... hmmm

Re: One Time Offers
I don't use it.
1 - i only sell one product
2 - my products / services and business ethos is to provide low-cost solutions; profits come from elsewhere
3 - I hate it, makes me feel undermined and patronised. If someone offers me an OTO, I'm unlikely to be a repeat customer.
4 - The likelihood is that I can get the OTO cheaper or free elsewhere if i really wanted it, and I'll let my customers make the decisions where to buy. this gives respect to the customer and helps build up a relationship.
I will happily sell other products through affiliate schemes, giving my customers options and taking commissions for myself

Re: One Time Offers
One of the best examples of this kind of upsell bundling must be Amazon with the option to "buy this one + this one for xxx" to give a small additional saving. And then saying " people who bought this also bought X or Y or Z". It's quite subtle and innofensive, leaving the buyer to play or pass. Wish I could do it!

Re: One Time Offers
I was just thinking about the amazon "suggestion" tool the other day for one of my sites (that deals in books as well) because its a gr8 idea
I buy from amazon from time to time and an uncertain whether i have ever added one of their "suggestions" (i know i've super-sized more then 1 or 2 meals in my day though- that's for sure), however like you say it is very subtle and i'm sure it does in fact generate substantial additional revenue for them

Re: One Time Offers
It really depends on the business. In apparel we use the “Customers who purchased this product were also interested in” because by nature people need guidance and don’t want to miss out on having what other people have.
One time offers??? Mmmmmore like impulse sales, but webs are different from BM stores. In a store you lay it all out so they can touch and feel the product, adds a visual to the product, sort of like the old 33 1/3rd record covers did. But on a web I think your presentation needs to compensate for the lack of being able to touch something or visualize what it would look like in your possession. You can get the visitor to impulse spend by using things like “monthly special” “this week only” bla bla bla. That does work because it has a time limit and requires them to take action or miss out on a deal, like a Labor Day car sale.
Personally I would not use a “Onetime offer” nor buy something touted as one. I guess it’s because I know I can always get a good deal on milk without ever buying a cow. Funny, I realized that I have not purchased any music in quite a while, I guess it’s because there is nothing to look at. Poor MP3 generation, they don’t know what the missed out on.

Re: One Time Offers
While I dislike 'Shilling', We may be adding the "Buy from Me! and you get these Coupons good for blah, blah!!" Actually, the blah blah is not to bad of a deal. Lunch for $1.99, with 1 drink order, at one of Cancun's best seafood restaurants. Tim
