Been using PayPal for many years and, as of yet, never had any problems. I use it for auctions and my web page shopping cart checkout. The accept all the credit cards and transfer the profits to my bank. I never heard of any problems, but I am going to read the articles in the previous posts.
Thaks for the info.. God Bless

I have had an account with them since 1999 and have never had a problem.
As far as CC information goes the less times I have to enter information the better. Paypal allows you to do this only once.
I am very suspect of giving my CC or Checking Account information to websites. There are so many very cheasy CC processors online now I shy away from sites that do not accept Paypal and the fact that the payees never get any information besides an email address and a shipping address with Paypal. You never know about some of these new and up and coming South Asian or Indian merchant account providers.
Besides Paypal is not cheap. The reason I use it on my websites is because the non technical average buyer has bought something on Ebay and is used to and comfortable using this payment method so it's a trade off.
Personally I'll stick with Paypal and if Gpay Gbuy or whatever gets trustworthy I'll use that too.
IMO of course, Dan

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

I use them to sell my scripts.
I build a script, whack a new page up on my site, advertise the page where its gonna get seen and wait. I only use paypal for this and this is the only time I use paypal for selling things.

I get a reasonable amount of income doing this and im happy with it. although, 14% of what I make goes directly to paypal (which is abit extreme).

I never cash the money out, instead i use it for buying domain names, webspace, stuff like that.
Its done me proud!!

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

Paypal works not for all countries.

Paypal has many methods to get money from your web site like standard or pro.
If you don't care about order confirmation, receipts, inventory managements  - standard will be good.
The problem of standard method is that custimer will be redirected from your web site to paypal web site and back.
In paypal pro method you have to call XML web service method and user will on the same site, but you have to install SSL certificate on your web site and (Paypal pro is not working in Canada - at least at this point of time).

Paypal has test environment and it is good!!!
https://www.sandbox.paypal.com

you can also try 2checkout - the same idea.Just generate html code for your product and it is it.

It is your choice what to use, the only differency is how to implement it to your web site and fees for each transaction.

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

PayPal is great and you have access to your funds immediately via an ATM/debit/credit card. They give you cashback for every purchase out of your account, have a high daily withdrawal limit and fight for you to keep your money when you get a chargeback request.

However, I do understand that some people don't want to use PayPal, for whatever the reason. It is therefore a good idea to offer an alternative. I use 2Checkout. This works fine, seeming to please most shoppers.

If you have ever dealt with customer support you'd also know they hire staff with IQ's of less than 76.

I beg to differ, matte. YES, we are talking about PayPal and the above are my experiences. They have all been good. In addition they also provide you with a virtual terminal ($20 p Mo) to take orders directly via phone, fax, or personally.

Here's a cashback for a small charge I made today:
"Cash Back Bonus$   From  PayPal Inc Debit Card  Oct. 18, 2006  Pending Details   $0.04 USD  $0.00 USD"  tummenupp

Of course, you need a business account to get all the perks reta

Yes, they do pay into my PayPal account which I can access via the card IMMEDIATELY after the sale is made.
I have always had excellent customer support. But I believe that we get what we give. In that respect, I think that often we get the same attitude back we present to others. I treat them as professionals, they have always responded in kind blinka

I like PayPal! They have helped me make a lot of my money. cool

Addendum. You do have a point there though, matte. I have seen my PayPal orders go down, while 2CheckOut is going up.
Customer complaints are ususally about people thinking they need a PayPal account to order, which is not the case anymore.

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

Hi everyone, we use paypal for our payment processor, but it is integrated into a 3rd party merchant cart. Because of our sales volume we only pay 2.2% so you can have a very inexpensive cart that does not "spotlight paypal". (I will post a link if admin’s request it)

When choosing a cart you need to think about Options, something the basic paypal does not offer like ease of use, shipping options, order management, payments for downloads, gift certificates, offer codes, etc.

IMO If you can not afford to invest $30 to $50 a month in your business, you should simply close up shop. Edit: That is after you crossed that threshold from toying around to making a commitment.

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

Been using Paypal since it's inception.  I use it for ALL online businesses that I have.  The biggest reason is confidence that my customers have in it and my own.  I also like their safe-guards with foreign trade, as I have many International sales.  I have tried many of the others, but never had a problem with paypal.  I even use it to 'cell-phone' money to my kids.  Wonderful new little feature for those of you that have car-age kids, hee-hee.

The only draw-back for me has been the off-line sales, i.e., art shows.

Ok...ok...my last post, I promise.

Off I go to do the Titanic.

Type with you all in a couple weeks!

Later...Bj.

Please help
gloria

Has anyone used paypal with their payment data transfer and instant payment notification features?

I'm running a site along the lines of subscription, but every subscription will be different (content, prices, IDs, etc)

I was going to use clickbank but it just wasn't for me with the diversity of products I'm selling

I'm using paypal and want my system to invoke actions as soon as the payment is complete.

I thought I had everything figured out but am now not sure what the difference between PDT and IPN, and how this affects the auto return.

Any Suggestions?

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

To me Paypal (and most other forms of aggregated payment services) implies that the business is small time (really small) and not all that serious about business. This has an impact on trust. Lets face it, if they are serious enough about getting a good site set up (and quite a few have got great sites), then they should also be serious about transacting their own CC payments. From Matte

There in lays another problem of the world of having Sh*tty credit.  I have tried again and again to get my own merchant account.  But due to personal credit issues, it is next to impossible.  It would be easier for me to buy a car I couldn't possibly afford.

PayPal offers a legitimate way to collect funds that would otherwise be impossible for me in the world of plastic.

Is there a reasonable alternative that is not reliant on credit scores?

That's why I use PayPal on my Business Cards site -- gives customers the option to pay by credit card; debit card; or even a personal check.

Try 2CheckOut.com. It's cheap to set up too. Funds get transferred via ACH payment into your account either weekly or bi-weekly. I use both PP & 2CO. It works fine for me. Customers don't mind either. What makes THEM happy is: outstanding customer service and they don't mind how big or small you are, a great product or service they are satisfied with and that they don't have to be afraid of being ripped-off. It would amaze you to know that many people prefer to do business with "small business" because the big ones have become too impersonal. Tech and customer support connects you to someone from india via pushing 12-38 buttons on your keypad, etc.

As far as the PayPal statement above.... I use PayPal and 2CO because consumers do trust them more. They also do all the checking on the cards for you. They give the consumer peace of mind that WE, the merchants, never see their credit card info. This goes a long way in consumer trust. As a matter of fact, read the following article. Opinions are one thing, facts are quite another!

As a matter of fact, consumers trust PayPal more than even Visa or Mastercard!!!!
They just feel more comfortable with PayPal and Bill Me Later than with the "Big" guys.
This is based on a survey of 5,000 online consumers in 2006. Here, see for
yourself:

http://www.epaynews.com/index.cgi?surve … mp;block=1

Go ahead, mjs_mall, you should do just fine with PayPal, 2CO, etc. Only small minds think small. You customers will trust you for how you treat them, because it is the people behind a business who make it a good one or a bad one.

Re: Who Uses Paypal?

For lack of knowing anything better at the time, I used the Paypal shopping cart on my website.  It was very easy to setup, even for someone like me with no experience at all.  After setting it up, I made a purchase with my credit card from my website (for $6.00)  and later transfered the money to my savings account.  I had no problems with it.  (except the fees they charge...which can't be helped I guess).
After reading the stories here, I think I better take a look at something else.  It was my plan to get my own SSL/shopping cart in the future (if my website ever really gets any customers!)
