Ok, so another arena I have been playing in lately is Social Networking and Social Search Optimization… people asked for ways to get traffic outside of Search Engines?

Well, U got it.

Today’s tidbit is for those of you with Blogs… I got flogged by some SEO mates into signing up over at MyBlogLog … and so far it has been interesting.

I joined up on Jan 22 2007 and so far here are my unique visitors

HuoMah - 99
Reliable SEO – 53

So in 2 weeks I have an extra 100 visitors to my main Blog… ( Reliable is merely linked to my Articles) – That’s 200/month .. and I am just warming up.

I have 50 members and am in the top results (searching the site) for

I don't want to necessary cry out "The sky is falling!" however it seems to me these types of social circles will eventually end up with the credibility quagmire currently facing MySpace and eventually lose steam.

For example, the other day I found software for sale for around $40.00 that will be your add-bot in the MySpace community.  Touting the ability to add hundreds of friends with the click of a button, sure people will accept the invite while you are sitting on the couch watching Gilmore Girls.  Yet it also severely affects the credibility of all users in the community.  Having 10,000 friends does not mean you haven't posted total garbage on your blog and having only a few friends does not mean there is no value in what you have published, yet that is one of the core elements of social networking.  "You take my word that a particular site is quality and I'll take your word that a particular site is quality and together the quality sites will rise to the top of the heap and leave the clutter behind" is a great vision for how the Internet should work...but realism tends to take over sweet dreams such as this and what is left behind is a bunch of junk still threatening to keep the good stuff at the bottom of the heap.

I hope you understand in no way am I trying to publicly knock your efforts and know the friends in your circle were well earned.  I personally have learned much from your writings here in this forum, which is why I'm curious how you view the issue of spamming social circles such as I outlined above.  Does the MyBlogLog community have something different from other social networks that will protect users from this type of abuse?

dOOD - you may have missed the point. I could CARE LESS about the business model or debating it's future. I have been doing that for MANY years with search engines...  ( Google Sucks.. days are numbered.. too much Spam)

Strangely they are still with us?? Go figure...

I am talking about traffic and optimization.... the rest? Let the engineers deal with it. Neither Google nor Yahoo is NEW to spam methods and neither is going to part with these entities easily ( 1.68 Billion and 400 Million respectively - plenty of motivation to get it sorted)

You want to go and start a 'Google Sucks' ( or MySpace or whatever) go nuts...

I have little interest in debating the future of SEs and Social whatever’s... it's near Politics and Religion -- abilities to combat SPAM. I am a touch of an insider on all things Web Spam which means I have a VERY good idea of how such things are being dealt with... Not a 'gut' feeling... not my style

So it's about traffic....  if ya don't like traffic.. groovy... but that's my gig... and that's what it is doing....

As far as Spam.. I am CERTAIN the fine folks at Yahoo ( and Google a-la MySPace) are one of the better folks to address Spam probs.

MY major concern is more with UNSEEN Spam... meaning Top posters/members getting paid under the table etc... the editorial quality is sure to continue to errode

Where do I stand? I  Figure like 'Auction Site' lunacy of yester-year, a few top players will emerge... the rest left behind

I would think more PERSONAL and PRIVATE communities may spring up to keep that essence of 'community' ... who knows though.... life is ever evolving.. Ya just gotta love that....Local SEO

Quick update - The further I climb up the 'social ladder' the more trafic I get. The search optimization is basically about optimizing your profile and Site Name KWs and then building up your membership.

Not much different that Search. Optimize the site and get back links (ie; popularity). I am moving up the Top 30 (out of 456 SEO Blogs) and Relaible is growing as well...

So ol reliable is catching up. Seems folks liked my technical workd better than my yakkity yak yesterday ( go figure?)

Once again, there is very little (there are a few tricks) that has to be done to grow one's profile. SO at this rate, I may 'work' it for 1 month (Feb 22 will be 1 month) and it looks like I should have a net (ongoing) traffic gain of around 300+ unique visitors a month.... that's 3600/ year.... not bad for a litle experiement....
