new referrer bursts onto the scene
I was checking referrers for my caricature site in site logs - suddenly I have a new darling StumbleUpon.com
not featuring in my other sites stats (nothing so unique on them) but for the caricatures one it rivals Yahoo and MSN as a traffic source.
If you have a site that you think people might think unique, it could be worth checking your logs...

Re: new referrer bursts onto the scene
I "stumbled upon" that site several months ago -- didn't impress me; maybe others will like it.

Re: new referrer bursts onto the scene
It is delivering 10% of my total traffic at present.
The downside is it is people 'time-wasting', not actively searching for the product. The upside is I am getting exposure.

Re: new referrer bursts onto the scene
Yeah I noticed that too. Did you also notice that along with the hits you're getting from the StumbleUpon toolbar you're also getting referrers from crap like pharmacies and casinos that seem to be related to StumbleUpon ? I mean if you look at the logs, based on the time and sequence they seem to be related - stuff like multiple subdomains with gambling, viagra, etc... stuff in it ?

Re: new referrer bursts onto the scene
I have been using StumbleUpon for quite a while now and have been tremendously enjoying the opportunity to be exposed to web sites I would have never found on my own with the click of a button.
For example, I am a huge fan of photography and have now seen hundreds of incredible photographs from around the world. Although some of them were not that great, overall the voting system does bring to you some of the best out there. As to how it impacts the art of SEO, I think it will continue to remain an intriguing tool in our toolboxes, especially since it is so easy to submit a site to the StumbleUpon community.

Re: new referrer bursts onto the scene
I love stumbleupon, too. You can get a few hundred targeted visitors to almost any website - easily and often overnight. Just make sure the site is relevant to the topic you submit to. Tag well, and make sure your content really is relevant. Stumbleupon users are looking for content in thier topic - what more could you want?
