hey, i know meta tags aren't very important these days in terms of SEO.
I was just wondering do I need them on every single webpage or just on the index page?

Also which meta tags would you recommend i used?  At the moment am using the following:description, abstract, keywords, robots, and revisit-after.

just makes a page 'more proper' and semantiacally correct.

in terms of SEO - they are important, but only implicitly. If you have the same content in the keywords and description tags then you'll get thrown in the supplementals

ie - make sure they're all different

What's the revisit-after tag for? the robots don't obey / underdstand it

You could choose not to use them, as your original post suggested - but iI feel those tags have more than just SE importance
