I sent one to ezine and it took a couple weeks before it got posted. (or was it three...?)
Could be a while, and I wouldn't wait around for it.

Took me about a day to know it was accepted and would be published the next newsletter, however, I sent it in a couple of weeks before Christmas, which, I've been guessing, is probably a slow period for submitting articles. Also, it was my first, and I'm so naive on so many levels with all these marketing, SEO, etc. stuff, they might have been particularly gentle to me.
I don't know their usual policies, other then, "If it isn't...nothing," but I'd give it two weeks (this time assuming some folks waited until after the holidays to post theirs, so they'd get more viewers), before assuming it was a no go. Also, since you, the author, thought it wasn't so great, I bet you could make it great by going back, fixing it up, and adding some "wow" to it! After all, the better the article, the more heads turn...towards who you are and what your links are, i.e. BLs.
Oh, and, personally, I'd love a link to it, if it does get published elsewhere. You're quite a character (that's a complement), and, since you're a little like me -- having websites not connected to anything associated with what SR is all about, I'm already curious what you wrote.

Hey Ryan,
it really depends- we get lots of articles submitted to us (upwards of 500/week) and we only publish 15/week
when putting the newsletter together i try to:
1. select a variety of articles (marketing, design, seo, etc)
2. select a variety for readers (noob, advanced, etc)
so it really depends how the newsletter take shape each time. if i have 5 really good articles submitted at the same time all on SEO aimed at experts one may get published today while the others will wait. It's not really on a first come first serve basis.
The best is always to PM when you submit an article (in this case though i found yours)
hope that helps

Why Don't You Have an Interesting Website?
Good topic from one who knows "Interesting Websites!" Good article...making me rethink my site. Not sure if I can come up with ways to make each page interesting as a solo act, but was just thinking of this when I read your article!
Comments and questions:
- Yeesh! You sure know how to down play your writing abilties. LOL Thought this was gonna be mediocre or worse (by what you said, not because of knowing you from the boards.) It's good. I'd grade it a B+ for originality, content, and idea generation.
- As someone with websites about something that will only remain as a wonderful, time-consuming dream (under the subheading of "If I win the lottery, I want to book a safari in Africa" scale) for most of the western hemisphere, how has your idea for the article worked out for you on your sites? I can attest to your sites being of the variety you spoke about in your article, "...I have also discovered what keeps people coming back and what makes them sit there for 30 minutes browsing through pages as if they had nothing better to do," but how about rankings and diversity of SE results?/li]
- I sure wouldn't mind you explaining how to rotate material daily, if you know how to do that with some kind of automation.
- Why Alexa? Everyone's always talking about Google, with minor references to Yahoo and MSN. Except for KW tools, I all but forgot Alexa exist!
Thanks for the article!

Not surprisingly my theory on websites is largely effective in rankings and diversity of people coming through to my site, and anyone else who takes this to heart for that matter
Not only do i get the normal traffic expected from people looking for a game reserve or safari in south africa but i also get people searching for things like "birds of south africa" "narina trogan" "interesting facts of south africa" "panthero leo" "cheetah what does it eat" "list of mammals" "water buffalo weight" "warthog predators" 'avian iq" etc, which is great because not only are the people searching for these things very diverse but they are also gonna remember my site when someone says anything about a game reserve because of the uniqueness of their search and Lalibela's ability to provide a decent answer. And obviously i am ranked for a vast amount of different terms on different pages as each is unique.
I sure wouldn't mind you explaining how to rotate material daily, if you know how to do that with some kind of automation.
Unfortunately i dont have the answer you are lookin for for this one, i edit my homepage manually as i dont have access to the hard coding (i just expand, market and arrange (control everything except hard coding) the Lalibela site - it was originally a 12 page site with no real rankings). I have looked into automation (just cant implement it) and there are server side scripts that can pull info from a database and update it daily or whenever you like really. If i recall correctly i think Northie has a fair amount of experience in automated updating.
Why Alexa? Everyone's always talking about Google, with minor references to Yahoo and MSN. Except for KW tools, I all but forgot Alexa exist!
Alexa is IMO an interesting reference, as long as you fight the urge to try mess with the results personally. I wouldnt take Alexa to heart as a serious marketing tool but definitely a personal indication of how well you are doing. As far as i know Alexa uses googles results etc, as i have the same bls and iLs in Alexa as in Google. In my experience (probably why i like watching alexa as a personal reference) if you can maintain and stay consistant with your website it is clearly visibly in ALexa as you watch your ranking improve constantly (every 3 or 4 days normally). I have been watching Lalibela go from 2.48million to +-300thousand in the last 3 months. It keeps a smile on my face
