A Yellow Page Section for SR User
Many of the knowledgable folks, who answer questions on these forums, are in the related business, and include their info in their signatures. Stick around this site long enough, and eventually we need their services for one reason or another.
How about having a folder, or, preferably, a section of these forums for them to out-and-out promote their services? That way, when the time comes, we can find the type of service we need, and return their investment of time and expertise, by paying for their service? And, since I'm boldly asking for such a section, can they also give a brief summary of which niche they serve the most or what makes their service different from the rest (a short written ad)?

Re: A Yellow Page Section for SR User
hey Lynn,
not a bad idea in theory but not sure how it would work in practice...
if you implement that system the you'll get a lot of people joing just so they can advertise...
if you set a min post limit before they can add their services you'll get a lot of people posting "crap" just to boost their post count...
i'm open to it...but would need to hear a solid plan of attack first

Re: A Yellow Page Section for SR User
I like that idea a little, but we'll need to look at both sides of the table.
It would be great for web based business marketeers to get the word out, on the other hand, like Nic pointed out, it would be a place for link dropping. Linking to bad sites? Could pose a threat if SR is trying to SEO this place for google, etc.
Maybe it should be a closed thread, where only owners were allowed to post their info.... meh, second thought, I doubt they'd want the headache.
It is nice idea, but a tough call....
On the other hand, here is what I found at another forum, geared towards my niche market.....
There was a certain category for business's of my kind. Your business was allowed to start a thread, and post as much company info, with links to product pages, as much as you wanted.
The catch is, if you come out with new products, you must add those to the existing thread. Either way, I still get to drop links to deep pages of my site.
Of course, the company and products must be the same niche as the general forum, and heavily moderated.
I spend a lot of time there now, since I can never find a site that actually lets people link drop like that. Everyone wants to get paid for the fricking links, and... well, i'll just stop ranting right there. hahahah

Re: A Yellow Page Section for SR User
It's a good idea; especially making a strict policy of "X" number of posts before being allowed to place your business in there, and should be a closed thread, closely moderated to avoid just plain spamming ... I get to be first...LOL!

Re: A Yellow Page Section for SR User
why not snag a free directory script and set it so that they need to be approved by the admin... put it in a sub domain and away it goes
The admins ensure they are actual members yada yada.. and admin can yank from the directory as pennance for bad behavior on the boards....

How so Matte -- what would be the "Admin" part compared to what we're doing now?

Re: A Yellow Page Section for SR User
Also, wander onto other message boards, and sometimes spammers hit. (Trying to think of one where they haven't hit. .... I got nothing! :roll eyes:) One thing for sure, if it was in real life and the interested members of those boards had a dunking basket to test for witches, they'd be some drowned spammers! Comments are directed at spammers quicker then a Dennis Miller joke with the spammers shrinking away like they were the butt of a Don Rickle's joke!
I grant you, I see spammers flocking, just thinking about it, but truthfully, I'm thinking there are enough knowledgable folks on here to give SR a heads up in two seconds flat. And, as for the naive group, well, even being naive, I can run down a lists of "knowledgable folks" that I would trust, others on this forum have already given me some others' reliable businesses that also come here, and, even being naive, I can pick out a scam quickly, usually, or make their lives a living hell for scamming me.
Again, not knowing scripts, I'm not exactly sure what Gypsy is describing, but, a service that I use, might help you set it up easily, if it's not something you want directly associated with this forum. Bravenet.com offers a service for adding want ads to your site for free. I suspect y'all (SR owner, staff and mods) are all script literate (or, dang, you sure pull off looking like you are really, really well
) so that the legistic probably isn't a problem, but, hey, gonna add this just in case -- PM me to find out how to join Bravenet through me, so I can get my whopping $1 for referring you! LOL (mostly tongue in cheek, there, but, hey, if I can get a buck out of the whole thing, I'm $1 down and a mere $29ish to go to pay for my new site location. LOL)
One thing for sure...I sure like making suggestions, since, in the end, it's entirely up to y'all, and, although I wish you had such a service available now, my opinion of SR will remain high, if you never go with any of my suggestions!
