1st time here guys & gals.
I want to count each link in my site that goes out to other sites, so that I know how many visitors go to each of these sites.
Example:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
etc.
When link 1 is clicked, I would like to see a running count. It can be shown next to the link or some other way.
I have counters for all my pages, but I need to count links.
Any help will be appreciated. I'm not very strong in code, so please make it easy to understand if you can.
Thanks

I think you can use the system of www.statcounter.com. You can see entry pages and exit pages where visitors are coming in and where they are going out. Also it shows popular pages, system stats, visit length, paths ...

If you would like to show the count in your pages then you have to use script on your pages.
Post the site link here and I will help you code the script to be placed for link clicking tracking.

I actually use www.sitemeter.com for back office tracking. They are great (and free) shows location via map, partial IP and domain info. But the problem is I don't know where my visitors are going after they click into my home page...some show outclick to another one of my pages but many do not.
So I am wondering if they just dont like the content and leave.
Any suggestions on tracking vistors on all pages??

Hi indianwebseo
My site is: www.openoursite.com
An example of a link going to another site, follow this path:
When site is open, click on the left menu: Hosted Sites
Then click on: Our Lending Site
I want to know how many times a visitor goes to that site from this click and I would need to have the same code on different pages that takes the visitor to this site.
Another example of linking to the a\Same Site :
When site is open, click on the left menu: Businesses
Then click on: Our Lending Site
Depending on the customer, they could have the same link(s) in different places withing my site.
Thanks for the offer of help. I'm gradually learning, but it takes lots of time and my 74 year old brain just doesn't get it some times.
Many Thanks and Happy New Year

Hi cmoscinski
My site is getting rather large and I do count how many times each visitor goes to any page within the site, and that is very beneficial. What I still need is the link counter as described prior and it sounds like indianwebseo has a solution.
My current counters are from Andale and they are free. They do a very nice job of counting and are easy to paste into any of my pages.

Do any of you have CPanel with your hosting? They can provide a great link counter.

Hi travelagent
I have cpanel and am just learning how to use it. Can you tell me where I can find counters. The home page doesn't show me anything similar to counters.
Thanks
Matt @ Launchnet
Matt -- here's how to do it:
1. Log into your CPanel.
2. Under "CGI Scripts", click on "Counter".
3. The next page will bring up a pre-formatted page where you can view your counter; make changes; etc ... then, when you're satisfied with it, click the "Make HTML" button; copy/paste the code; upload to your server, and you're done.

Hi travelagent Again
I already had found the counter when I got your message. I currently use Andale Counters. They work on any page that I want to count, plus gives you a report whenever requested. Many different styles of counters. Unless I am missing something, it is far more advanced than cpanel's counter.
The only thing Andale is missing is the ability to count links that the visitor clicks on.
Best Regards
