Imaging Sucks
K,
This is a throw-back to my previous thread about vector files. Now I don't even know if I need them... ARGG!!! Boss is putting on the pressure, hardcore... like it's something simple. God, how I wish I was self employed....
Anyways,
I have a file that was done for us, by our usual graphics guy. Here is a link - Select Build PDF
In the file, the first page will be the completed file when the printing has finished.
The second page is the layer for blue. And the third is black.
The printer will create some sort of plastic sheets for us to use on a special printer here, using the second and third pages as a reference.
The printer will print the blue color on the product. Then, wait to dry. Then go's back, and prints the black.
When it's all done, it should line up perfectly, and look like the first page.
The printing service is not willing to share with me the information regarding color/layer separation... or whatever you want to call it (really... I don't have the faintest idea here, completely lost)
They would be willing to do it for a fee tho.... which is why i'm under the gun, 'cause the boss doesn't want to pay.
So i need help. Please, anyone? Normally, I would just hop on Google and key in something.... but I really don't have the faintest idea about what I'm looking for. Where do I start? What is the process called?
To make it more complicated, the original file doesn't look quite like that. Where the blue fades into the black... it's actually a very fine gradient. So somehow, the graphics guy just pulled out chunks. I'm assuming the printer can only do so good.
HELP!!

Re: Imaging Sucks
search for
pantone colour separation
or 'color' if you don't like the 'u'
this should bring out some good search results. for technical searches like this I prefer msn to the other engines.
I used to operate a screen printing machines for cd screen printing.
The screens have two cross hairs on them and the printer had two cameras - each screen is lined up so the cross hair on the monitor (what the camera sees) match the cross hairs on the screens.
each layer of ink was cured with UV light

that was so random it was beautiful
I did screen printing a while back.. seems so much more.... well... more like caveman stuff compared to what you guys are talkin about. At least it sounds fairly simple and straight to the point i guess.

did you really?
beleive it or not, my old man invented (OK co-invented) the screen print process within every CD printing machine used today. He also developed the photographic films and all the most commonly used mesh preps. Obviously the company owns all patents and they let him go last spring. Ba****ds
he's actually now half self employed selling the inks you'd have used too.
wierd ol world eh?
So many pages, so little time.
