It's a non-issue - for now... bill was killed December 8th.

LOL... but think how much MORE fun it would be to get that SR-Mark guy going over at BShopTalk....
Uhg.....
Terrible.
Link bait all the way, imo. But if we wanna talk about the subject at hand, I'll add my two cents.
First of all, buying the entire internet has got to be the most costly move anyone could possibly make. Knowing that, a company would have to weigh the possible chance of being broken up by common monopoly laws, in effect tossing away all the cash and labor they've invested.
Being broken up would be done via two methods -
A) Another company with many dollars feels that they want a piece of the pie. Simply grab a law firm, and away they go with a big expensive campaign, that will indefinitely pay off.
B) By the hands of the American people. One must remember that the point of the monopoly laws is to protect peoples freedom of choice..... IN A CASE WHERE THEY'RE GETTING SCREWED. Monopoly's aren't all that bad. It's the people that run them. If I had a monopoly on a particular product, through buying up all kinds of companies, but still offered everything at a the same, or cheaper price.... no one would complain. It's when I've got the whole market tied down, and started jacking up the sales price, and not letting anyone else compete for the same customers. Thats when people start complaining, and lawsuits get filed.
Knowing that there are far too many business's, schools, and hospitals that rely on the internet for day-to-day activities, means that a monopoly just wouldn't be viable, and would die a quick painful death.
Let's also look at if a monopoly is even possible -
AT&T got their service broke up (or was it quest) back in the eighty's. Why? The reality is, it came down to who owns the lines running down the road, and no other company was allowed to run on those lines. Here, we have the internet, running on almost the same lines. Any other company wanting to step in would be shut down on the spot.
So the break-up of a monopoly wouldn't just be possible... it's INEVITABLE.
To finalize my rant (and god save you all), this is the same story I've heard since 1995. Bait Bait Bait Bait
Did I miss anything?
Oh yeah.... bait.

It was AT&T (Ma Bell) that was broken up into the "baby-Bells", but they are now in the process of buying back some of those properties (they recently acquired SBC here in Texas) so I don't know how effective the original ruling is going to be. Also remember the effectiveness of the last two anti-trust cases against MS (can you say "slap on the hand"?). Money buys a lot more these days.

Link bait... seen the same re-hashed story before.
Would seem reasonable to check out who the authors are AND what their web sites are before assuming that. Even Internet Savvy Teddy Bears are better at link baiting then that. LOL
Also, true...it is "re-hashed." So is global warming. Should we ignore both?!

Ignore both?
Yes... delete this thread. No sense in giving them link credit for it. At least throw a link condom on that thing.

The bill was killed. No laws passed to protect the Internet yet. We can breathe easier, but, trust me, those companies haven't given up. After all, the USA just shifted the lawmakers quite a bit in the last election. No one knows how this will affect the future of many questions in the USA. Some of those questions have International consequencies.
Now...ummm, time to visit a barber's shop. LOL

Mommy responded to your post already, but, then again, Mommy is NOT Internet Savvy! As the co-authors of the article that you didn't like, and as Internet Savvy Teddy Bears, we thought it would work better, if we responded.
We're briefly stopping what we were working on, to respond better then Mommy did. (She is a beary nice People, but, well, if you've seen her other posts in here, you'll know she has a lot to learn!
)
(That's our kids surpervising our work!
)
Thank you for noticing! We're so beary exciteddyily that you did! Of course the article is for link baiting. Aren't all articles? Isn't link baiting a good white hat tactic for bringing new traffic?! http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-advic … inkbaiting
Of course, even though link baiting is a good marketing strategy, we're beary Internet Savvy. Keep the Internet Free (see no linking?
) was written to tell those, who don't know what could happen, (until legislation is passed in all countries, we still need to actively protect the International Internet), because we want to keep our web den visible. We fear that we would lose our web den and our Abearican bear buddies online, if those big companies get their way. (Since those companies would only buy the American part, our bear buddies in the rest of the world would be fine, without visiting Abearica again)
We're good at link baiting. We could do it here, too, but we will be fair. If you want to know how good we are, check out this thread in the Everything Else forum. http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/ … w-Articles There's links to an article that we publish that really shows how good we are at link baiting. If you would like to get some help to link bait your web sites, we'll be more then happy to brainstorm ideas for articles that could link to your site. We're Internet Savvy, and beary helpful teddy bears!
Now, to tackle you're objections for the subject of the article:
First of all, buying the entire internet has got to be the most costly move anyone could possibly make.
We’re not sure it’s even possible to buy the entire Internet. We even said so in the article, remember? No need to tackle the monopoly idea, since they can’t buy it all.
To finalize my rant (and god save you all), this is the same story I've heard since 1995. Bait Bait Bait Bait
Sorry, I (Spaulding) wasn't even born until 1999, and Teddy is two years younger then me. Now Mommy, being beary old, was around back then, but, well, again, not too Internet Savvy. (Thanks for your hope that God would save us...not too sure Teddy Bears are saveable, but it was beary nice of you to offer the hope.) We're happy to see you are Internet Savvy too. but just because the three of us are, doesn't mean everyone else is. We've surprised quite a few bears and Peoples with this information, so it is still important to tell. And, as for baiting -- do a search on the term. This article hasn't made it high enough on Google to have done anything for us. But, we knew that when we researched it all and then wrote it. So, yes, link bait, but not the primary reason for the article.
Well, we have to get back to decorating.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays to all the Peoples in this forum! We're going to let Mommy keep visiting. We're still hoping she will become Internet Savvy some day, too.
Thanks for letting us visit for a bit, and thanks for reading our article. We sure hope the more who know, the less likely these big companies will be to disrupt our fun!
(Our whole family! Good looking bunch, too!
)
