Thought I was just downloading some Microsoft security patches, but NO,.... Instead, in their infinite wisdom, Microsoft took away my Windows XP and loaded IE 7. It sucks. I hate it.
It totally screwed up my Google Tool Bar. I have reactivated it, but the Page Rank bar isn't working, even though every setting/tool/option shows it as "enabled".
I want my page rank tool bar back. I mean, it's there, but it's just totally grayed out.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.......
(Now that, mobtex, is called moaning)
Plus, there are two new buttons on the Google bar which I don't get. A smiley yellow face, "Vote For This Page", and an unhappy face, "Vote Against This Site". What the heck is that all about? And where do we go to see the "votes"?

Two words - Fire Fox
I.E. sucks in any version
Hahahaha.... Totally agree.
You know what strikes me as odd. Gypsy actually uses IE.... how weird is that?
OK, for some reason, my TBPR is now working. So I'm heading over to the Google Forum here, to see if anyone knows about those weird Google voting buttons.
I use IE and contrary to popular belief it's not because i am too lazy to download FireFox...
..but i believe most web surfers still use IE and therefore it's important to see how your site appears to them
Absolutely spot on, Nic.
Anyone who checks their stats can readily see that! 90%++ visitors to my site are using Windows OS.

Oh I keep IE 6 on my computer just for that reason (as well as Opera 9, but it's better behaved), but I use Firefox on a day to day basis. I keep IE at version 6 cause it has more css issues that need to be fixed, they fixed some of them in 7.

True,
I use FF for my default browser. Have IE and a couple others installed and use them when working on a new site, different layouts or playing around (learning) different CSS values.
I will also use IE on occasion when doing a site review.
My third quarter averages for the top three;
MS Internet Explorer 74.6 %
Unknown ? 12.4 %
Firefox 9.5 %

OK, techies.
Now that Microsoft has "graced" me with IE 7, one (of the many) probs I'm noticing is that only some of the little emoticons we use here at SR come up in the browser. Right-click to "show picture" does nothing.
How do I change that?
I apologize for the idiocy and unimportant nature of this Q.

thats not really because of Internet Explorer, if you clear your cache it should work
but you really should just forget about IE and load Firefox

Here's an interesting page ( http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp ) that has stats as to the percentage of people using what browsers as well as what users run what page resolution.
Quite educational...I thought more people ran 800x600...glad to know most run 1024x768 , and yes IE is by far the most popular

I agree 100% - I don't use MicroSTOOPID IE for anything.

I respectfully disagree; especially with all of the typical current flaws in IE -- people are fed up with it, and more are going the way of FF and Opera.

Sorry TA, and I hesitate to say this to such a knowledgeable one, but your statement above is wrong. I am sure you are right within the "developer" world, but 99% of Internet users (i.e. the ones that actually buy from our sites) don't even know or care that Firefox exists). OK I'm maybe exaggerating the % but coincidentally I did a straw poll in our pub a couple of weeks ago (for a completely different reason) and of the 21 people in the group only 3 had heard about Firefox and only one was using it (he, like me was in the computer industry). The others, being "normal" type folks like electricians, plumbers, labourers, a dentist, etc .. just wanted to log on to Tesco and get their food delivered or buy their books from Amazon or whatever and just use whatever is supplied - i.e. IE.
PS I also had IE7 "loaded on me" having been told I had an update waiting ... however, (and I know I am in the minority on this board) I think it is a great improvement over 6. I don't really use it for anything except checking site compatibility when I am creating and weirdly it handles eBay much better than FIrefox so I use it there as well. I don't use the GTP so cannot comment on that aspect.
Happy New Year to all.

I was set to put this link up for you guys (and ladies) when I cruised the previous posts, so that I wouldn't make too much of an ass of myself by reposting and decided that life was short and there are only so many good oportunities for ass making. So here goes: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
Whether there are industry specific variables present or not, unless you're on a controlled network, two thirds of your traffic are likely using IE. Please just believe me, unless you are truely gifted, your site will display differently on IE than it does on FireFox (a better browser in my opinion, btw). Aren't you curious?
If you're running windows, just install both, set your preferred one, and every so often take a look at how the other half of the world sees your handiwork.
As far as "cramming" the upgrade, I think Microsoft does this out of embarrassment for IE6 and if they don't, people like certain members of my own family would still be running IE5. The "caveman computer", we call it
