On Sesame Street, Burt and Ernie went fishing together, and Ernie had no idea how to catch fish, so just called out, "Here fishy, fishy, fishy."
Well, you have to see the bit, to enjoy the outcome, but, truthfully, I gave this message the above title, because I'm surprised and confused by an article in SR (two issues ago -- I'm behind again), and the lack of response from a couple of guys on here -- Northie in particular, and Gypsy, just cuz it seemed to be a Dave Bait.
Anyway, the article's title is Opt-in Email Marketing & JV Giveaway Sites. Truthfully, like usual, I didn't know anything about Internet Joint Venturing (if it's allowed to be turned into a verb) until I peaked at Northie's link a few weeks ago. (I do know a bit about the area for offline businesses, but it seems different.) His offer looks like a good deal for anyone with a little money or anyone who can churn out articles daily. That being understood, I don't understand the article. What Mr. Vincent is writing about has nothing to do with Northie's JV, and, since Northie's JV is the full scope of what I know about online JV, well...
1.) What am I missing now?
2.) How come nothing from you guys, Northie and Dave?
3.) If the first question is answered, would it explain the second question?!
As usual, lost again!

Right, ok.
he certainly isn't putting point across very well
I can summarise the entire article here
Objective - git people's name and email address
method - give them something for free that they get after giving you their details
what to give them - sign up to other websites as a JV partner and use whatever freebies have been given to you.
Choose your target market and then choose your free product to match so that everything is relevant
mail out sales letters to your new 'opt-in' list for your own products or those you sell as an affiliate
For the record my site, jvmembers.com, does not operate a joint venture in the context outlined here. We do have an affiliate network.
As for your questions, AWC:
1 - usually an online JV is a type of affiliate status. eg - I could joint venture with you to sell your products for a very large commission
2 - I missed the article
3 - now I'm lost!
any clearer?

IMO JV's can be very powerful tools
They can also be very simple (basically it's just 2 people comming together for their mutually benefit)
for example if i have a website that sells SEO ebooks and you have a website that sells SEO software...
I could be inclined to contact you and say "Hey AWC, why don't you email your customers and tell them about my SEO books and I'll email mine and tell them about your SEO software".
That way you can both get access to a new set of potential customers
***
what the author is explaining is a more complicated JV tactic (there are a lot of diff JV strategies)
He's saying people should jump in and offer products for free as bonuses to new product launches
So for example let's say you are launching a brand new kick a** SEO Program...
Your spending tons on marketing, have a lot of affiliates lined up and when you launch your new program there will be lots of attention and "buzz" build around it
Well i could approach you and say "Hey AWC...why don't i give you a free SEO ebook that you can include as a bonus to your customers when they buy your new program"
That way:
1) you get to add my ebook as a bonus
2) your potential customers may be more inclined to buy when they see all the bonuses attached to your SEO program
3) I get exposure from your launch when all your potential visitors see i have included this free bonus
Hope that helps shed some light!

any clearer?
So, Mr. Vincent was link baiting JV enthusiast for affiliating?! Or, is JV often merely a synonmyn for affiliate marketing? (My concept of offline JV is what you explained, Nic -- some what different from affiliating, although I can see the connection.) Gotta admit, after reading Northie's link, I have an interest in his concept, (Northie, keep your idea alive for a few decades, since, by then, I might just have enough articles to join. LOL) so was looking for other variations of the theme to learn more. Obviously, not interested in ebooks, e-seminars, etc. (nothing wrong with them, just as interesting to me as ice hockey), so wouldn't have read it, if it was titled better. Some how, I just get the feeling that the article was jumping around too many topics and giving too small a picture of each, or was more like a Nike commericial -- you gotta know the company before understanding the commericial.
Mr. Vincent sounds smart, but he'd probably benefit by taking apart the article, catching all the different topics he touched on, and write clear articles for each topic (or write an ebook on all of them, and use this article as the prelude.)
Thanks for helping me to understand that the confusion isn't all me.
