check for joomla installation in your cpanel if it has fantastico. it will save you much time in uploading the whole package. installation would take around 2 minutes only if your cpanel has fantastico with joomla installer in it.
im using the Joomla stable version and again it is givig the sam eproblem..
i have to type paisamart dot net/index.php to pull up the index page.. it wont pull anythign with paisamart dot net

more queries in the making
Joomla works on Windows boxes but be aware that you can not get Search Engine Friendly URLs on a Windows box very easily ( there are ways around it but it is not elegant and not as good).
I always recommend a *nix box with mod_rewrite as a way of obtaining the best results.
Checkout http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ … /cat_id,0/ for SEO based extensions for Joomla!
I have had good results with J! and SEF's in the majority of the Search Engines.

log-in to the admin cpanel, then click on site from the menu, then site templates. select the template you're using then click the edit html button at the top... then edit the template removing that thing you mentioned
