I have searched everywhere for a solution to this problem and I think that there simply isnt a solution. I am giving it one last shot in here as some of you coding experts sometimes come up with some magic..

Where I impliment the Frontpage photo gallery, displayed as a slideshow, I cannot get the page to be fluid. I.e the gallery stretches full length as oppose to a percentage of the page. This means in firefox the user has to do that awful sidescrolling.

As I said, I cannot find a solution anywhere to correct this, does anyone know of one?

(double u double u double u dot conference-coordinator.com/venues-valencia.htm is an example of a badly displaying page.)

IF NOT:

I have been looking at competing gallery software, some free, some paid but till now I cannot find one that will display my gallery the same way as I have it currently using the frontpage version. Does anyone know of an easy to use autogenerated album that can do this. (if it can add hyperlinkslinks to the gallery body text also that would be a plus)

step 2 - ditch front page

you're using all sorts of weird javascript and browser-specific code - firefox probably doesn't support any of the original code and no provisions have been made for FF or any future browsers.

step 3 - recode

The simplest solution is just to use an iframe that contains your thumbnails - each linking to the parent page containing the desired photo

I use php server side scripting to automatically show the next two entires and the previous two entries under the main photo, as in this example - http://www.yorkoutdoorgroup.org.uk/gall … mp;photo=4

Totally agree with Northie, the codes definitely need to be fixed if you want to insure cross-browser friendliness.
Stay away from browser-specific codes.

Thats a pretty neat generator actually. One thing I really like about it is that it will make multiple page albums with as many pages as you have pictures. You can also change the HTML around if you want.

Some things I don't like so much about it is that it names pages like page1.html, page2.html etc... and if you later decide you want to add some pictures you've got to rebuild the entire album.

One thing you might consider is coppermine gallery. Its open source and there are search engine friendly mods for it if you feel like installing that sort of thing, and you can add and remove pictures with ease.

I also like Reflections gallery ( http://klingmandesign.com/reflections/ ) , the only thing is that as far as I know the versions that don't require an Invision Power Board are not finished yet. But the people that created are really nice and helpfull people. Reflections gallery is what I use on my site(s) if you want to see it in action ( http://www.tombofthemutilated.net/?act=gal , or http://www.infectingthecrypts.net/?act=gal ), even though on my Cannibal Corpse site I also have a gallery made by the tool in the previous post, if you look at it you might not recognize it because I decided to come along after the fact and add some stuff to the pages it generates. Here is what it can look like ( http://www.tombofthemutilated.net/index1.html ) I imagine yours can look loads better - I made those pages about 3 years ago when I was just starting out.

I will add to this proverbial pole... dump the FP, its part of the micro world domination scheme and code named "code killer".

I tried to use it on a perfectly neat site (gwema), i hand coded it. Then opened it in FP, i was a noob so their was no backup, i tried to get it out of FP's web after i realised it was cruddy and shazam!!!!! my code was broken, i couldnt make out what the hell it said after going through FP.

It kinda explains what happened to your site. Get rid of FP and avoid browser specific scripting. What they said tongue

well the code listed above wasnt checked against the right doctype as it happens. there are about 60 errrors in the code, 90% just comment tags and not a display issue :-)

the only part i am concerned about is the photo album, everything else displays fine and was built for 90% of our viewers that use i.e 1024 display. now that we have several thousand uniques per month that 10% of firefox now becomes a greater number and one worth making the efforts over.

So thanks for the suggestions of alternatives.. still havent found one that is html friendly and can display the way that I am displaying now yet tho.

I've never used Front Page. I gather it's an easier way to start out. As I understand it, the price you pay is much less tidy code and control. The more you would like to accommodate all of your visitors, the less likely you are to achieve it with FP...

Real life example... you have a car that you can tune, fix and drive very well etc... now give the car away to a mildly literate caveman... who can drive. He will drive you everywhere from now on...

Guess which part of that turns from handcoding to FP. rock you have now used Front Page... wasnt that fun

As it turns out, the non-FP users got here first... you cant win them all... its a fact of life, but if you stick around im fairly certain you will find someone who can help you out with all your questions... and then some.

Hey I used Front Page, swithced to Expressions very recently, but the funny thing is that I never use FP Gallery. Nor do I use the so called form builder either. (I have a daughter that uses the form builder but will be switching soon)

You'd be surprised what you can do with these programs if you just keep plugging away, deleting some things, adding others. So now I have something called a Mixed up editor I guess.

I see an "If Internet Explorer 4, do this" & an "If Netscape6, do this" but no "If FireFox, do this"

FrontPage always gets the bad rep, but the fact is that if you use the wysiwyg section in any editor (yes dreamweaver too) you are going to have browser compatibilty problems & coding stuff ups along the way.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you more...maybe someone who is well versed in browser hacks could suggest something.
