banned from what?
if your talking about the search engines, then here're 3 good links
www.google.com
www.yahoo.com
www.live.com
You'll see a search box on each page, type site: then your domain name and then click to confirm
[sorry, patronising is my middle name]
If you get some results then you know you haven't been banned. If you get no results you either haven't bee indexed, or have been banned (if you knew you were indexed previously)

Fair enough... i shoulda seen that one coming. Im not banned, but surely if i were, there would be a site that tells me what im doing wrong and why i am banned? It cant just be "either your not indexed" or "you are banned" without knowing which is correct.

you can't get banned until you've been spidered (note the use of the word 'spidered', not indexed).
you know if you've been spidered or not by looking at your logs
Google give webmaster guidelines - follow them. If you breach the guidelines and get banned, correct the problem and file a reinclusion request.
Yahoo and msn/live aren't as fickle as google, so as long as you've got some good links and content, you should be fine.
The SEs are under no obligation to index your site or to provide reasons for or against inclusion - they are there for the sole reason of making profits and if your site is not worthy then it will not be included, or kicked out.
If you rely on SEs to bring you traffic then they are, in a way, a customer of yours and it is a good idea to keep them happy.
Hello,
If you get banned, the "Google Search Quality Team" will send you an email telling you your site will be banned for x days because yxz reason they found while indexing your pages. They explain very detailed why you've got banned and after you corrected your "error" you must go to a Google page (find link in the email) and confirm/explain that you corrected the "errors" and want to be re-indexed again.
My site was up and running 6 years without any changes to the homepage (the "error" was there 6 Years!) and was #1 for the main keyword for nearly 3 years.
Does anybody know if after the time (30days) the re-indexing is fast?
Any chance to get back to #1?
I really had a good extra income with banners, Google ads, and such and see it shrinking like ice-cream in the sun. Doesn't it fear you too how everything depends on Google??!!

I depends on the offences and how you addressed them
You will get what is known as a 'Hand Job' ha ha ha ha... ( sorry.. having a party) -- Anyways, they vary and re-inclusions are usually done manually.
Some times, with honest mistakes, you will get back where U were... if they believe U were purposely up to no good.. it could be longer

Hello,
you could sign up (it's free) for google Sitemaps and google analytics which will give you a lot of information about what could be wrong, or right! Just tpye both terms into your search engine to get there...
Having said that, I still have a low page rank with google, but have suddenly appeared on uk google search page 1 for some of my search terms, when I've been on page 1 with Yahoo, MSN and others for a while. Not sure why the sudden change.

I think all I can do now is sit and wait until 12/20 and see how long it will take until the site is back on. I went to my google account and checked, my site was spidered yesterday last time.
@thegyspsy: thanks for the reply, very interesting link.

hee hee.. just being cheecky..
It is the PR shown in the Google ToolBar.. thus ToolBar PageRank or TBPR
My ongoing struggle against the Cult of TBPR is documented here;

me too... it made me think what's the value of tbpr when my site is on page 1 in search results with 100,000 in the list...

Try XML-Sitemaps.com You're right Google is a mystery - I only seemed to appear as a secondary listing for some time in their SEO rankings, and my google sitemaps account still tells me my ranking for is low, but recently and suddenly, I am appearing on page 1 for most of my (fairly obscure) search terms. It takes a while. Having said that I did have a major crash and was off-line for about 2 weeks.
I couldn't find any programme that created a decent html site map, so did my own in the end. - I only did thie recently - perhaps it made a difference?

eh, ????? who´s getting this Google notification service???

As far as I know they don´t really care. It once happened to BMW (the car brand) but THEY got notified and went back into the Google index within a few days...
But for us, Mr. "Normalwebsiteowner..."??? Never got banned myself, but I don´t believe it´s just that easy.
Hallo Thorsten,
I will see and let you and others know. meanwhile...
